Can you remember how you felt the day you picked up yr first Ferrari, Its a great feeling....One i will never forget.. Driving away from Maranello, It was a sunny day the roof was off and a bunch of people watched as we took delivery...I was ****ting it in case i stalled the car as we pulled off the forecourt.. ;-)
Picked mine up from Meridien in the New Forest.Perfect late summer day, roof off feeling a million $'s . Meridien's showroom is bang in the middle of Lyndhurst's High St , next to a pub that's always rammed with tourists.....same worry as Joe's about stalling! I wasn't familiar with the handbrake on right hand side and how much of a biting point it's got before engaging so i sat there like a lemon for 3-4 minutes trying to take it off!!! Cred went out the window with amused watchers..... Tony
It's not something you easily forget. The car was delivered to my house, with all my family there. As well as most of my neighbours. Seeing that Virginia Water Motor Company truck pull in was quite an event, with it's trick back section so the entire back lifts off the truck and comes to rest on the road. The the engine starts and this bright red, beautiful car slowly comes into view, steam pluming from the exhausts. Bloody marvellous. I'd waited a long time for that moment. In my case it was especially memorable because my parents were visiting- it wasn't planned, it just happened that way. So the first person I ever took out in one of my Ferraris was my father.
Remember it well! My (now) Wife wanted to know why I wanted a lift to Maidstone, seems I'd completely forgotten to mention that I was buying one It was a 328GTS,Unfortunately they'd noticed that the Air Con wasn't very effective so they wanted to recharge it before I left, they were just waiting for a space in the workshop to do the work so I took the car to the local petrol station to fill up, great where's fuel cap? how embarresing, found it eventually!!!!
Hi chaps haven't taken delivery of a ferrari, but i did have one of those driving experience's one (girlfreind)buys from wh smith,it was a 360,testarossa with a 3rd gear that needed some attention and i told them, and a new masarati, was quite excited the day before but knew what to expect from the engine depatments, the higher rpm figures in a car engine of this type was a nice experiance to,it was to be expected to jump out of a 360 then throne into a TR there was going to be a little bit of difference 1991 vrs 2001 there always as been in automotive engineering, had a brill day and got top marks 98% and im no racing driver and dont want to be,just love being a technician and after 23 years no complaints from the boss no leaks water or oil brake fluid and when i get combacks it will be time to call it a day, plan on 20 more years yet, cheers Dale.
I have spent 27 years waiting for the moment when I pick up my first Ferrari. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow! Nervous as hell and it is Snowing at home, so my collection date may have to be put back.....This has to be the most stressful day of my life to date! Report follows tomorrow, unless I can't pick it up in which case I will be locked in my room! Ed
I remember it so well; 328GTS, May '99. I took the train to Maranellos (which seemed curiously ironic). Maranellos showrooms give a great sense of occasion, and I was shaking when I drank my pre-delivery paperwork coffee. The car was brought round, roof off. The drive home will stay with me forever; the sound of the engine and the finely mechanical feel of the car was everything I'd imagined. After much soul searching, I replaced that car recently with a 355GTS from Maranellos. Just as exciting the 2nd time through!
My 328 GTS (1987) is being delivered tomorrow. Just cant cant sit still at the moment. Will post details shortly.
Welcome Mark, Hope you enjoy the car, Good choice, I am little biased mind you. Merry Christmas & All the Best for 2004, Steve
