Just curious as to how everyone uses their puters ... I personally browse a bunch of forums and various sites (some I will not name ). The PC also happens to be my music/movie theater. Plug it into the home system, and watch movies (d/led from Kazaa ...) on the TV or listen to music. Picture storage ... all my pics (since 1999 and my first digicam) are on the puter (and CDs for backup), along with a couple Gb of media pics I like enough to save. I also work/study with it ... lucky for me, school is all plugged, everything happens by email ... very cool. MSN is always on, and always chatting/exchanging pics with classmates. Quite cool. So? Does anyone else use their computer basically just for fun stuff?
email, checking websites, scanning storing information, watching TV via the TV tuner while surfing the net, now scanning old slides (just bought an HP scanner today) touching up the images and storing/burning to disc. all routine stuff you do with your computer, although the way my computer is built (self built) you would think i'm some crazy gamer or graphic artist (i.e. custom aluminum case, 8 fans, blue lights that flash when the bass bumps, etc.)
If there talking about what i have, its called a media center computer. I have an HP media center m370n. It gives you the ability to watch TV on your PC, and you can also record everything that you watch digitally, (comes in handy for watching f1). I dont believe it can be wireless though, because a coax line has to go into your cpu.
bought the Walmart special: ATI Raedon 9200 with option to purchase wireless remote control at a discount. Videocard came out to about $150 and remote control about $30. You get a weekly downloadable guide/grid and you can do image captures from TV and save them as jpeg files. I don't do much gaming so I didn't need the best out there which is the 9800 Pro.
This "media center" talk is all marketing waffle. The term is misleading in that it could give the impression some built-in proprietary technology is involved. What is required to watch TV on your computer is a TV tuner card. Many different brands are available, although I prefer products from Hauppage. Once this card is installed into a PCI slot and all related software and drivers are installed, it needs to be connected to an antenna via a coaxial cable. Nothing goes "into" your CPU. Your CPU is plugged into a socket on the motherboard. Also plugged into the motherboard via a PCI slot is the TV tuner card. Then connected to the TV tuner card is the coaxial cable which runs to your TV antenna. Actually the ATi Radeon 9800XT is the fastest. Roughly equivalent with the nVidia GeForceFX 5950 Ultra. The 9800 Pro is slightly slower, and when first released competed with the now discontinued GeForceFX 5900 Ultra.
I recently purchased a Dell 17" monitor that has the tv tuner built into it. I plugged in the monitor and attached the coax from the cable to it. It has a remote so you can either do picture in a picture or full screen TV. If you're really into it, and have the money, you can get much larger monitor with tv capabilities.
i guess it doesnt really matter for me really... i already have a divo, but id still like to know how to get saved shows off that and onto my comp divo is the dish network tv recorder, its not really called divo i just like the name...
