That fastback jump in 60 seconds at the end looked like photoshop. Weak effort from the guys in post.
The Man with the Golden Gun had a good little chase in it! Remember the airborne corkscrew over the river? DL
Its far from my favorite, but Ive always heard great things about the French Connections. I saw it last summer and thought it was terrible. I thought, "maybe for the time it was good." Then I took a film class and learned that the scene was not about the actual car chase, but rather the psychological chase....When I looked at it that way, it was a really good chase. Still not my favorite though.
C'mon, Bullitt all the way! Groundbreaking chase scene plus Steve McQueen did lots of the driving in it.
Ronin is incredible, and my vote The most FUN yee-haa however is the last flat out finale chase scene in Gumball Rally between the AC 427 Cobra and Ferrari Daytona Spider in the water run off right before the Queen Mary. The shots! The Daytona SOUND! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! It's life changing.
Ronin, the stunts performed with that Audi were remarkable. All those above listed movies are good stunt driving footage, very difficult to choose. Before computer animation, that stunt really did happen. The producer found these two stunt show drivers that could do a 'corkscrew' jump with that AMC car and the producer wanted to include that sort of car stunt in his movie. They built the ramps over the river and on the first run they got it right! - Gabe
I watch bullitt whenever it comes on, but the best part of that is the build-up to the chase, the music, and the part in the city. Once they get out of the housing area it gets major league dull. Here is the best "chase" on film, its real and i hope you have broadband. http://www.lad.lv/~martini/porsche/Videos/911_Stockholm_Getaway.mpeg
How about "The Seven-Ups" with Scheider. Couple ugly pontiacs and a great car chase, plus the slickest one-stop convertible conversion I've ever seen. Not the greatest, but in top 15 or so. Anyone else seen this flick? Damn, I need to refresh b4 I post...
Bullitt. Ronin was too precise. You can't do that without messing up a car, and Bullitt delivers in spades.
What? No "Against All Odds"? The chase scene between the black 308 and the red 911 Cabrio was one of the best!!
Bullitt all the way. When I started getting into cars finally, my dad broke out Bullitt to bust my Hollywood car chase cherry.. lol. The Mustang had to be worked over in order to stay ahead of the Charger. What a fabulous real chase with some great angles. Sunny Edit: If I've seen Rendezvous, I might choose that over Bullitt... from the hype LOL
You folks need to check out Against All Odds - I bought the DVD for the Ferrari QV spanking a P-car Cabrio. The best chase scene? Ever watch The Hidden!?!?!?!?! The original Gumball Rally where a AC Cobra goes head-to-head with a Daytona Spyder through the drainage canals of LA? My vote, however, will stay with Bullitt since I have no other choices.....
Excellent thread... I bought a copy of Rendezvous and its on the way to me soon. I'll check out some of the others I haven't seen. Thanks guys! Sunny
