just think, though, you can buy a new 350 crate motor for the price of the ferrari spark plug wires and cap
I think it looks pretty nice, and the wheel combo is a nice touch that really sets it off. I wonder if the 356 Cab in the back is off a VW chassis?
So how many of you "REAL" Ferrari guys are driving a Daytona Spyder? Some of you are unbelieveable. You are so high and mighty that you forget that most people can't afford a Daytona Spyder including most of you. Most true "CAR GUYS" appreciate the work that goes into building this car or any but most you you don't know that. You buy a used Ferrari and think you are hot stuff, maybe doing very minor work like washing it. Stick you know what back in your pants, really great ladies don't care what you drive. Try building a car, any car from scratch especailly something like this with out a manual. Check out the Chicago site and see how two young ladies are building a GT 250 "ON THEIR OWN" including all fabication and electrical, including dropping in a real V12. Then you qualify to say something intelligent.
Your rant misses the point. Most guys here are CAR guys, not posers pretending to have a hot car to show off. There's a difference. I'd rather have a real 308 than a fake Enzo. People that build fake Ferraris may have skills and some fakes even look pretty good, but in the end it's pretending to be something it's not and that's a whole different animal than owning a real exotic. If you're going to build something, use real Ferrari parts, like the GTO you mention. That's a recreation, not a fake. Ken
I'd rather be a "real" Ferrari guy than a wannabee! Why would anybody want to spend $18k on a pile of junk like that particularly with an auto transmission? You can buy a "real" Ferrari for that sort of money, and not get embarrassed every time someone comments on your car! And before you start wittering on about the joy of building something like that, then maybe I can appreciate a little of the satisfaction you may get.BUT buying one that someone else has built, where's the satisfaction in that? It just sends out the message loud and clear that you wish you had a Daytona.........but you can't afford one!!!
It doesn't look that bad....... I think it's over priced, but that's just me. To each his own......life is short.
At which point a bunch of purists will scream bloody murder because you're abusing real parts/cars for something fake. You just can't win.
It really doesn't look that bad...paint is shiny. Figure a stock vette of the same era is likely 15,000$, so for the same price you can have this. The guy is likely losing his shirt on this car...
I don't like the wheels and it is missing the interior. No coincidence that the interior shot is too dark. Actually looking at it closely the good news is the good base underneath. Aside from that there are a gazillion things wrong with this one. Good starting point for a project I'd say.
That may be true but it's a different issue. Chelle's GTO is what a 'fake' should be. It's a real Ferrari, not an eyesore. *No one* can afford an original GTO, so a Ferrari recreation makes sense. I've always wanted to drop a Ferrari engine in a Fiero...and tell everyone it's a kit car Fiero. Ken
I love Chelle's GTO so don't get me wrong here when I play devil's advocate: I fail to see what the difference is between her car and the one in question except that hers is of much higher quality (and therefore looks like the real deal). But the underlying concept IMHO is the same. So is it then "only" a matter of how good the end product is? Just for kicks I once joined the Fiero Owners Club and got all the paraphenalia. Once in a while I put a magnetic "Fiero Owners Club" sticker on the back of my 308 to confuse folks. My ultimate fantasy would be to go to a Fiero meet and win "Best Replica" trophy. Now that'd be a hoot!
Errrrr Ken I thought it had a BWM v12 in it (according to the cam covers) As for the Fakeydoo Daytona, if a mcburnie was good enough for crocket and tubbs........ Seriously though why not find a rusty 400/400i remove the body and drop the McBurnie body ontop, that way you get the looks with the correct drive train (his has been done a couple of times in the UK)
I hate to disappoint you, but her GTO does not have a Ferrari engine. It is a V12 though. As far as the Vette goes: Have you ever seen the track test of a Rowley Corvette? Or have you ever seen the ones coming out of Britain made by the same folks that used to do the conversions of real Daytona Coupes to Spyders?
My mistake on the engine! So now I would call it a replica, not a recreation. IMHO, a car with all Ferrari parts is a different kind of car than one without. No, I haven't seen the Vettes of which you speak. Ken
Apologies if I'm nit picking here. It is all in good fun, it's just that this is one of my favourite topics and still haven't fully understood your point: Let's assume Chelle had put a real Ferrari V12 into the car. The underlying car is still a Datsun and is not made of "all Ferrari parts". So in my book it would still be a replica and not a recreation. And again: I love her GTO and I'm not trying to take anything away from it.
