Radi Removal: 84 Mondi Conv QV

The procedure that I had posted was for a Mondial Qv, I presumed it would be the same on his 8, go through that procedure it should come out fine

For the 3.2 and QV, they are usually DIN mountings. Depending on what is already in there, it is pretty straight forward. Remove the central tunnel carpeted piece by removing the screws. this will allow access to the rear of the radio where some are held in by a bolt on the back. You may also need the little DIN tool to free up the radio from the front after you remove the faceplate.

Check to see if your radio came with an amplifier, usually mounted under the passenger seat. My Blaupunkt did, and I needed to replace both the amp and head on mine...and the wiring nightmare that ensued...

This should be simple I know, but for me it never is!!!

Two questions:-
1) There appears to be something stopping the radio coming out on the right hand side circled on picture 02. Looking at the rear of the unit on pictures 01 & 03 there is nothing at the rear preventing this. It seems that maybe there is something on the right side of the case that is maybe catching the side of the housing??? There is room at the back above the a/c ducting, so i know it is nothing there, it feels like it is attached close the the tune (RHS) knob. Anybody had any issues removing one before?

2) Can the plate (picture 02) on the front with the rectangular slot and holes for the controls be removed? The replacement CD player is the standard rectangular type so therefore that plate needs to come out and looks like it is fastened to the surrounding console.

You are doing just fine. You should never leave old Ferraris alone - they like the attention. Have a beer. This is fun!
This is not a DIN installation, so... I may be wrong , but I think you will be able to take the leather radio mounting front plate should pry out revealing a metal mounting plate where there is a nut screwed on the tuning knob your radio holding it in. I'd recommend a blunt spatula or butter knife to slowly pry the squeeze fitted leather panel off.

It turned out there was a fibreglass insert screwed into the console prior to leather. A screw tip was visible on the inside which was snagging the Rad/Cass case hence preventing it from coming out.

In essence I hacksawed away and the fibreglass insert is now DIN standard and the CD with RDS now fitted.

The 360 Modena radio/CD players look & fit well in the older Ferraris. Occasionally they can be found on EBay. The use a European DIN size tray which is a little bigger than some of the other Japanese trays. The radios have all the modern features including display of the song & artist while the song is playing and the display reads "Ferrari" upon start-up.

Mark, I like the Fezza radio. Do you guys have RDS?

Generally in the UK it displays the radio station and sometimes the DJ's name or radio show. Not sure if the tracks were ever present. I know from my many US visits they do. The last car I had in the US had DAB aswell.

RDS is also used for alerting you to traffic problems in the area you are travelling.

 

Thanks for the info on RDS; did not know what that is. This radio has that RDS feature along with short & long wave reception. We do not have the RDS in the US; commercial radio stations broadcast traffic info. There does seem to be a GPS component of this radio that I don't really understand.
The radio in my car was from an Italian car and the manual is in Italian. In looking at other manuals I have been able to figure some things out, but not the RDS/GPS components.

RDS/Traffic info just works on the back of local radio station traffic news. If you listen to BBC radio they use EON, which tracks local radio stations as you travel around the country, so you automatically get local traffic info. Well at least that is the theory.

Not sure what the GPS feature of your radio is?? Not heard of GPS on car radios per se, unless it had something to do with sat Nav equipment attached????

 

My radio is from an Itailian car and the manual is in Italian (model 6104). To assist with reading it I downloaded a manual from a US version radio (model 6103). The US version has a GPS Nav system and the Italian unit just has the RDS.

The US version with GPS, does not have a moving map you type in a location and the unit tells you to turn right/left etc. It looks like more of a PIA than anything.

Ah yes now you mention it I have seen car stereos with navigation.
Suppose anything is better than nothing though.

So does yours have directions for Italy then
