Hi guys, the day before I took my Dino to the paintshop (last May - serious withdrawal symptoms here), I fried both my window switches. New ones (for GT4) are obtainable at dinoparts.de, but at a price tag - $60 a piece, plus shipping. I was planning on putting a bunch of relays in the doors anyway to get some more oomph from the window motors, so this is as good an opportunity as any to sort this stuff. Two questions then: 1: Do we know of a replacement switch that will also work. The miata that I once had, uses very similar switches. And the old BMW's also have something that looks a lot like this. 2: I don't get the wiring on these. According to the wiring diagram (attached), there should be 4 attachment points for wires, and yet there are 5 wires running from each switch... What's that 5th wire? And which wire is which??? Thanks guys! Hans Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hans, Can you post a pic or two? I MIGHT know of a place .... Are you sure the switches are bad AND unrepairable? mwr
Not sure if they can be repaired. They're in the car which sits in Wales at the paint shop... Dinoparts sells these: http://www.dinoparts.de/DE/ferrari-208-308-gt4/elektrik/schalter/fensterheber-schalter.html
The ground wire is already one of the four! 1 = +12V 2 = GND 3 = To window motor 4 = To window motor Now, what would be #5 then???
Are you saying that your old switches actually had 5 wires attached, or are you just observing that the replacement switches have places for 5 wires?
The old switches also have 5 wires. In fact, I seem to recall (it's been several months since I've seen the car) that the center fast-on connectors had multiple wires attached to them...
That might be a good thing. There are two "internal" connections between poles shown on those schematic symbols -- might be that they are actually done externally so, as you indicated, the wiring arrangement on the harness side might give a clue.
Hans, Not sure this will help... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206646 Do you still have those bumpers???
Diagram below are the QV 5 pin window switches, also used in several other Ferrari models. The earlier 4 pin switches tied battery and ground to the sections together internally. The 5 pin tied positive contacts together internally. There is a 6 pin version which requires all connections to be made externaly. It makes sense that later switches are more readily available than the early 4 pin devices. Function of 5 pin switches: 1 & 3 go to window motors, 2 & 4 are ground, 3 goes to the appropriate fuse. If there is any doubt about the numbers, use an ohmmeter to double check the numbers on the switch against it's function. _________________________ http://www.FerrariWiring.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
