which F1 was used in the Top Gear episode in Abu Dhabi where it went up against the Veyron?

to be honest all i really wanted to see was a ncie set of clear picture's of a few F1's together, and your post and pictures was more than enough,i think one day i'll have to have a copy of your entire picture collection so I can use them as motivation :D

He does have a brother or two, and owning a CART team would be well within their budget. ;)

Actually, there's sort of a funny story about #011 and how long it was in the USA before anyone really discovered it was here. In June 2006 it participated in a portion of the Player's Run, and photos of it appeared online. At that point, a car which no one knew the whereabouts of since June 2003 was now back on the map.

However, the silly portion of the story is that if any of us had been thinking, we'd have known it was here as far back as 10-09-2004 when this post was made on the F1 forum:

Some suggested it was XP4 based on color. Then he added two more posts:

Then I - the F1 genius  - chimed in:

At that point, the idea of it being #011 didn't even cross my mind I guess.

    Then another reply from him:

    Then 'genius' again:

Then someone else responded in reference to the wing as well:

Chris followed up with a larger version of "the one pictured by mini magic's name" which if I recall correctly was an avatar-sized shot of #011 he had taken in London when Christies auctioned the car in June 2003 seen below.

The guy never came back to say yes or no as to whether that was the one he saw or not and the discussion never went any further.

But seriously, looking back that far in the records lately has produced some real "Duh!!" moments just like that. :D

    This rather significant one: http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/03q3/1965_ford_gt40_roadster_prototype-auto_shows

The F1 -vs- Veyron race was done by borrowing Rowan Atkinson's McLaren F1 - chassis #061.

There's a very crisp and clear version of the clip here on Vimeo:

    http://www.vimeo.com/5694076

And a new clip with Rowan's F1 and another Veyron at Rockingham in the UK, put together for the latest Octane magazine:

Yes, it had some kind of temporary plate, and his normal UK plate on the nose was covered over with tape.

Here's a behind the scenes shot of the Abu Dhabi 'red' plate, which likely means something to the local officials.

Just bouncing back briefly on this earlier part of the discussion. Here's one single image I have of Rowan's F1 road car together with GTR #24R at Bruntingthorpe which I'd forgotten about earlier. I won't claim that it lends any further credibilty to him actually owning the car or not, but I figured I'd share it since the subject did come up.

For some of us he was the Edmunds Blackadder before he was Bean, which is only one role in a prolific career spanning 3 decades...

That said, the idea of seeing him pull up in an F1 and get out is humorous, to say the least.

Atkinson also pulled in an estimated £11M in 1997 for "Bean" the movie in its worldwide release. That was certainly enough to splurge on the F1, regardless of the other money he has made with the show and his other movie rolls.

I don't understand the ':(' though - he is clearly a talented individual even if his humor doesn't sit well with some.

The guy is great, he wrote a piece about 14 years ago or so for CAR magazine about his buying process of a 456 and it was hilarious. He complained about trivial things but not about getting stranded on the highway in the rain in a brand new Ferrari Flagship.

By the way if any of you have a chance, see Mr. Bean's Holiday, it is really funny.

The first time i saw the picture of the F1 with the gold centre split rims, I didnt thing there was any beating that. Awesome looking car but not a fan of the dark wheels at all. Still the best in my opinion but then you could probably show me another and Id just say the same, love those split rims though!!

There was one chassis painted "Aubergine" (Eggplant) that is the most unique color I had ever seen on a car personally. It is chassis #016. For not intentionally being a color switching paint like that 'Mystic' color Ford used on the Mustang Cobra a few years back, from different angles or in different light it was purple or grey or maybe brown. It might not sound appealing with my description, but I really liked it a lot. The best pics I have to demonstrate the paint color of this car are already uploaded in the Macau thread that Martin D linked to here. :)

George Harrison's F1 was "Dark Purple Pearl" - chassis #025. Unfortunately there are not any GREAT photos of it in the public domain. It is supposedly owned by George's son Dhani now - but there has also been talk that it was sold to Eric Clapton. I'm more inclined to believe it has stayed with the family as it was a very special car to George.

I would have thought that some pics of it already had appeared in this thread, but I didn't find them with the search feature. The best of what there is, is below. If anyone has better pics of this car they can share, my mom would love to see them because Purple is her favorite color.

The last photo is somewhat poor quality, having been made as a screenshot from a web video, but I think the smile on Harrison's face there says it all. :)

Noticed that in this pic, this car seems to have the HDF kit with the GTR-spec front bumper [with curved lower section next to splitter] rather than the LM-spec front bumper [flattened front] -- would be interesting to know if McLaren offered a choice between the two, or if this bumper was sourced from a GTR mold.

I've kind of wondered if perhaps they aren't just using whatever body pieces they might still have laying around from the old days. :D

There is another HDF Kitted F1 (#023) that lacks the front wheel arch extensions, sort of like an early 1995 GTR, and it also still wears a set of the standard F1's 17" wheels.

I refer to it as the 'Partial High Downforce Kit', since McLaren apparently called the two cars with the full kit and the additional louvers over the front wheels (similar to the longtail GTRs) the 'Extra High Downforce Kit'.

Pics of #023 when owned by Paul Stewart are below. It's since been sold and is now owned by Johann Rupert and kept in the Franschoek Motor Museum in South Africa. If you are nearby you should pay it a visit.
