1981 308 GTSi Air horn problem I just disassemble the air horn. To find out I've got air coming out of the compressor ( from the (red) tube) leading to the horn itself. But there is no sound coming from the horm (plastic) itself. Change or lube. If lube, where do we lube the horn? Again, thanks for all your help. Regards Marc-André
You don't lube the horns, you lube the compressor. If the compressor is putting out air, then look carefully at the hoses..they may no longer be sealing well at each of the connections. Solution would be to cut 1.5cm off each end, and reattach the hoses. You can try cleaning the horns by spraying some electrical contact cleaner in each end, and flush them out of dirt or residue. New horns and compressor are cheap...you can get them on-line for $35 or so. Try Ebay: http://search.ebay.com/fiamm_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8
A followup question: I recall that my horn has what look like two nipples for attaching an air hose, but only one is connected. Should I be T-ing my compressor output to both?
My horn is the same as in a 308. I hadn't used it for 2 years until last week, and it sounded more like a fart than a horn! I lubed the compressor and it's back to normal. Ken
Being an air-hron, there should be no moving parts inside the trumpet, so lubing isn't necessary. Either the hose or horn is blocked, or the compressor isn't putting out enough air to make a sound. Lube the compressor, check hoses are clear & make sure wasps haven't taken up home in the trumpets!
Being from Canada you could go to Canadian tire and buy the FIAAM horn kit that looks very close the the original. Comes with compressor and 2 trumpets. I believe it was about $40 Canadian.
