Couple of questions for the 348 brotherhood - during a recent run after a frenetic gear change, the left side throttle linkage of my late 1993 model 348tb stuck @ 3000 rpm (scary when trying to change into low gears). I fiddled with the linkage when I arrived home and it was still racing @ 3000 rpm. Left it rest for about 10 minutes, re-fired the engine and the throttle returned to a normal 1000 revs. Any suggestions?

Also, the central locking and electronic key aren't working. The central locking switch when pressed engages then, instantly disengages.
The vehicle locks OK manually via ignition key when outside the vehicle. Suggestions/remedy?

Why do you say it was the left throttle linkage? The left and right linkage should not be able to operate independantly of each other when assembled correctly.

The central locking sometimes acts up when one of the doors isn't closed quite all the way.

There is an Italian joke that goes along the lines of "cruise control" being your floor mat.

If you were frenetically shifting, you may have scooted your floor mat into your throttle. Happens.

Guilty man here. Mine sat idling at 3K at traffic lights. Lots of panic and looking under the engine lid for the root cause. It was the carpet. But hey. I had only had it a few weeks at the time.

As for the door not locking. My passenger lock suffers from frantic opening and closing without any intervention from me. I suspect the centrel locking is not fully opening and so re-engages the lock. It propably needs adjustment inside the door mechanisms. Be very careful when using the key to open the doors. Never force it or a small piece of metal in the door lock will break and bye bye door lock. (£100 for the small part in the UK)

A broken wire or bad connection in the door connector (very common) can cause this. It was exactly this fault (plus a crackling speaker) that made me re-wire it.

I will 2nd Chisx666. My 348 spider exhibited similar symptoms. Broken wires at the door connector. Driver's door in my case.

The more I think about it you may be right on the money here re the floor mat catching on the accelerator pedal as I have 2 extra mats on the drivers side to protect my carpets. I haven't had the car out for a run since this last episode so I'll see how the throttle reacts next time around. Thanks for the advice to all the brotherhood.

Re the central locking mechanism - how do I access the inside door mechanisms and what do I look for to check on?

Be careful with the throttle linkage @ the back of the engine as well. Sometimes, it can come loose & your accelerator pedal will fall flat to the floor. Happened to my friend. My central lock doesn't even work so I installed aftermarket system. Speaking of pedals, do you guys know if there are bushings that need to be greased or changed periodically?

Just was thinking, cause you said the left hand side throtle linkage was stuck?? You checked it when you got home?? It just got me thinking......................... If the mat sticks under the pedal, which mine does also,it will keep the revs up,but both throttle bodies will stay open bcecause it only has one cable goin to the linkages. You mentioned that only the left was stuck open?? Maybe you have another problem there mate?? Maybe sticking LH butterfly shaft in the throttle body?? See how you go anyways? :D

You mean the accellerator cable came off the linkage?? Scary stuff when you are driving through an intersection ect....... :( As for the pedal bushes ect..My mat is a bugger for sticking the pedal also,so one day i removed it and the pedal was still sticking every now and then,so i sprayed some WD-40 up the cable(behind the pedal and in the engine bay) and it lubed it up great. No trouble sticking ever now! That was when i took the car home back in August last year and 2000km travelled. :D Try that boys!

Point taken - sorry if I was misleading re the left hand side butterfly throttle linkage story. I am quite aware that the linkages on both sides act in unision. It was just that when I twisted the left side throttle linkage and held it on, it brought the revs back to normal, whereas this didn't occur with the right side when I tried to do the same. Mind you, when I let go the left side throttle linkage, it was still returning back to the 3000 revs. Maybe it was the way the mat/carpet was twisted on the interior near the throttle causing this malfunction. Next time I take it for a run I'll check all this stuff out, being ever mindful of the answers posted above by the 348 brotherhood.
By the way, I'm in NSW - I might even give the 348 a run up to Mt Isa to see how it performs and introduce it to your 348 - he he. Cheers.
