The other day I was watching Car & Driver TV and they were testing a 575M Maranello. The guy said "due to the new F1 gearbox we can't do our usual smokey burnout." What does he mean? I have never been in a F1 equiped Ferrari, just the old school 6-speeds, but I have never heard this before. I thought you could just bring the revs up and go....and then you get your burnout. Even if the car doesn't have launch control. Am I correct? And is C & D TV wrong? Thanks.

It is even easier in an F1 than a 6 speed. The "Journalist" is clueless. He neglected to read that Top Secret document in the glovebox, the owners manual. Are you surprised?

I wouldn't trust those guys' comment on TV... for some reason they seem to be clueless about these cars. Unless 575 is totally different in concept and operation than 360's F1 you should be able to smoke them tires all day long with the ASR off.

Edit: Brian you beat me to it!

    And how!

Turn off the ASR, punch it in 1st from a standing start, and *POOF*, instant tire vaporization. I believe the manual calls it a "performance start".

I do not condone this type of behavior ;)
