ate brake calopers

rebuilding, any one to recomend

Welcome to FChat. Take a few minutes to use the Search function here on th Dino Forum. There are lots of posts concerning brakes. Use Advanced Search, search on Brakes, select 206/246 thread only, and stand back. Or just use "Search this Thread" at the top of the Forum and enter Brakes. As a machinist, you can probably do it yourself. If you want to farm it out, either Ferrari or Porsche shops can do it. Porsche 914 used same calipers, front and rear. Simple job.

there is also a very interesting thread on Willwood brakes. Evidently by merely drilling the mounting holes on the Willwood calipers themselves you can mount it to the wheel with no other modifications. I am thinking of trying them on a 246 gt that I am rebuilding. I am pretty sure that the ate brakes were the ones used on the 914-6 and not the 914-4. It is all on here some place. Good luck!

 

What do you need, just a rebuild or fully plated to show condition?

If you choose to re-plate the calipers then the rears are the difficult ones as the handbrake mechanism is built internally to the caliper, so you must destroy the freeze plug to get at the internals and remove them before plating. I'm doing this right now and here's a pic of the Porsche specialist who is doing a batch. He's in the Seattle area, does exceptional work for the Vintage racing folks and does things correctly but is a little slow due to demand.

I retrofitted 4-piston Wilwoods to the front. Simple job.

If you need the ATE units rebuilt, I can do that as well.

Note the spacer blocks that differentiate these from the Porsche 914

 

I believe the 914 also had smaller caliper pistons though I don't think that would affect braking that much as the rears don't do near the work of the front brakes.
