This car belongs to Paul Hill, one of our sponsors. Check out how low the back box looks. It's all perfectly normal tho' and there are no ground clearance problems.

Oh boy, must be really careful when you reverse. Some small rocks might just dent it. How does it sound (compared to Tubi/stock) Paul?

    Paul,
sorry , the purpose of the thread wasn't to start a "don't like it" , "do like it" battle. That said, the look is VERY unusual, as we discussed :). FWIW, once you're used to it , it does grow on you. And the SOUND is simply awesome. It's deffo giving the decat Tubi a run for it's money in tone and higher up the rev range i think the Capristo sounds better.

Thanks Tony for the post, I know now not to bother looking at the Capristo for my new Spider when it arrives here.

It must be the worst looking system made !!!!!

    Regards,

    Phil.

My first thought was, "They put it in upside down!"

My second was, "That'll create lift at the rear... or at least kill any downforce."

My third thought? "The automotive equivalent of Hemorrhoids!" ;)

I don't mind seeing a pretty exhaust... and don't think it makes your car ugly at all... but it just looks "wrong" to me... and I find anything that looks like it messes up the aerodynamics of a Ferrari to be "unappealing"... JMHO.

That’s what we all thought when it was being fitted!

This is as far as I know was the first one to be installed on a 348 in the UK and as many people know my car is used as a “guinea pig” for a number of the parts that we manufacture etc, and I decided to get a Capristo fitted based on the fact that no one has seen or heard one on a 348. (I'm doing this for all you other 348 owners out there, you know!) I too was a little surprised on how low it sat but given the nature of the experiment we decided to leave it on the car to get peoples reactions. At first I was a little unsure and had mixed feelings pure on the visual side of things but it has grown on me a little but I personally do not think we will keep it on the car indefinitely. (I knew from day one it would be a "love it or hate it" response)

The audible side of things is far beyond anyone’s expectations with an amazing sound that from 2500rpm upwards just makes you smile and wonder " is it really this car that is making this wonderful sound!". There is also a lot of resonance at approx 1800 rpm that makes the car a bit unpleasant to drive under normal conditions.

We have given feedback on these issues and I truly believe that if Capristo were to design a 348 system that was not visible (like the 355 etc) the product would be more welcomed by 348 owners.

    Cheers

    Paul

Paul -- So is there a big empty space in the engine bay where the silencer body is usually located? Can you post a jpeg showing the general layout on the engine bay side?

If it sounds anything like the Capristo on the 360's, I bet it is awesome!!

I will take a few sound bites tomorrow and post them!

    Steve,

The original heat shield have been put back so it does not look any different at a first glance.

Here is a picture of the exhaust off the car.

    Phil,
Please follow up with pictures with the heatshield in place. I am confused, is this Capristo sitting lower than the stock exhaust? Or is this just the perception, with the heatshield missing? To me it looks low, but also quite vulnerable if negotiating a steep driveway or curbing.

Looking forward to the sound clip..bet it sounds awesome!

    Dave

    David,

The stock exhaust sits much higher than the Capristo - will try to take a picture through the heat shields.

Right - here are a couple of sound clips - both were taken today - very high background noise due to wet roads. The sound quality is not brilliant as we had the lowest quality set on the camera ( only found that out afterwards!)

    Sorry,

I have heard a 348 with this exhuast capristo on and the my 348 spider with tubi decatted sounds much better more F1 like. The more powerful 348 later engines sound much better then the earlier 348's.

Still prefer the Tubi. Much nicer design. The capristo will get damaged and looks to aftermarket, where the Tubi is hidden away and everyone thinks thats standard... A true Ferrari sound.

    Justin,
the Cap certainly LOOKS different ! As for the sound , i thought nothing could beat AndyHls' decat Tubi. I was wrong . I think the Cap is at least a match for it. I won't say it's better as i haven't heard it enough . Don't dismiss it out of hand, tho'. As with all these things it come down to personal preference.

as far as the sound. I like the capristo better, but don't think I can get past the look. ( from what I have seen in the picture.) thanks for the resizing.
