Still haven't seen this, though reviews are mixed. I heard they swapped the F430 for a BMW for one of the action scenes, as if Ferrari owners care about a few bullet holes.

So, did Mann ruin it or do something cool?

Haven't seen it either, but watched the 3 hour special on TV. They showed a bunch of clips from the movie, nothing really inspired me at all. The artsy pop style from the TV show with the Hammer sound is missing just as much as are the cool clothes and don't even get me started on the casting. You simply can't replace Don Johnson. Which is why I also think a Magnum PI movie without Selleck will be nothing but a shallow copy.

Crockett should have been cast using Matthew McConaughey.

    Nay...

This movie has nothing to do with the series. It's good action if you like Heat and Colleteral, but not much Miami Vice about it.

NAY! Maybe I was expecting too much. To me it was just another cop movie. Nothing to make it stand out the way the series did. In the series, Crockett's TR is what started my interest in exotic cars. Also, they did not do much to make the sound of the F430 exhaust sound real good. Sounded a lot like a ricer in the movie. In person, the exhaust sound is incredible. Another interest of mine is off-shore power boats, and in the previews I saw, there was a racing scene. This must have been cut out in the final version, because there were only a few scenes with Crockett piloting an MTI on his way to Cuba and back with the girl. And a few drug runs in some Donzis. Overall, a decent movie, but not one of Mann's best.

That would have been great instead of that Turd, Colin Farrell.

hated the ended but thought it was fairly well done, I actually want to go see it again, if you can separate the old show from this one it will be MUCH better.

I would be interested to hear Don Johnson review of it.

I say yah (but could have been better) needed more ferrari chase scenes and better soundtrack, and those awesome fender camera shots from the original,

Foxx had some good Rico "sounding" dialogs, he definitely did his homework.

They needed to capture a lot more of the glare and flair that is Miami. My favorite part is the blue flames coming out of the F430! Is that authentic?
The blue flames out of the exhuast? Too awesome if it is!

Exactly !!! 2 Thumbs DOWN. Remakes without the Original Actors are Terrible.

    See Beverly Hillbillies,Addams F,Brady Bunch,Lost in Space,Wild Wild West & Numerous others.

Some advice to Hollywood : Stop the Remakes !!! Do we need another King Kong ?

Big YEA from me. It was dark and intense and powerful and visually stunning.

the gun fight at the end is the most realistic (not that I've been in one, mind you ;)) I've ever seen on film. I thought Farrell and Foxx did greats jobs esp Farrell who really captured Crocket. I also like how accomplished the rest of their squad in this version, Gina, Trudy, Switeck and Zito (flunkies in the TV series), they even had Castillo in the field wearing body armor!!

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't... Half the comments complain about Hollywood remakes, the other half complain that this movie wasn't remake enough? I'm confused.

I thought Mann was SPOT ON taking his original concept and shedding all the cliches to end up with the true essence of the what the show really was about.

The movie was ok. It had its moments. The gunfight at the end was pretty cool. The acting wasnt the greatest I've ever seen. Would I see it again? Yes.

It will be a hard choice for me to see either this or Snakes on a Plane. Don't mess with an original. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Wondering the same thing! Very awesome looking, real or not..

Thought the movie was pretty good, if a bit confusing. Subtitles would have helped during a few heavily-accented passages!

The movie was entertaining but in my opinion Mann completely missed the mark. In essence it seems he tried to make an art house kind of film and ignore the fact that it is Miami Vice the TV show that spawned such movie hits like Bad Boys or even Transporter 2.

There was simply nothing outrageous about this film as there used to be in the original TV series. Even the colors were muted. Colin also underwhelmed as Crockett though he did his best. Fox held his own but truth be told neither were any substitute for DJ and PMT and to not have the originals in some kind of cameo is just dumb. Lastly, you simply could not understand Gong Li. Why she was cast is beyond me. She's not even hot.

The movie was okay but the villians were VERY weak, making the movie pretty disinteresting. The big billy badass looked like he just crawled out of the computer closet with his silly thick glasses, greasy hair and paunch. Get back to the server room tubby, this is Miami Vice.

Crocket also looked like he fit right in in the trailer park sceen.
Miami Vice: Revenge of the Mullet.

Nicely filmed but to many night time shots took away from the movie.

    Lot's of nice cars.

How about a straight-faced comedy remake of the TV show (a la Brandy Bunch or Stasky & Hutch)?

Casting could not include either Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell (overexposed).

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did hear from several members of the popular Offshore Only forum (www.offshoreonly.com) that there was a LOT boating footage cut from the final movie due to time constraints, as a few of them had actually had their boats filmed to appear in it...

I do plan on seeing the movie though within the next few weeks.

In addition to the points previously mentioned that gave the television series its signature, the absence of Jan Hammer's music in this movie was fatal. The authority of that music to identify the original series was no less phenomenal than that of John Barry to identify the Eon Productions James Bond films.

With a Hammer score, Bozo the Clown could have played Sonny in this film and pulled it off. Without it, if Don Johnson had reprised the role, audiences would still have felt "something essential missing".

The same thing happened when Sean Connery reprised James Bond in Never Say Never Again. Should have been a cakewalk for him, but - no John Barry music/Monty Norman theme - hence "not a real Bond film".

Pros: -Gunfights (excellent sound, realistic, sounded like downtown Ramadi at the end)
-Ferrari scenes (sound wasn't great but great camera work and good perspective like driver's point of view showing tach etc.)
    -Boat scenes
    - signature cool Michael mann all around (score, lighting, atmosphere...etc.)

Cons- Main female character (they hired the lady that answers when you call for chinese take-out..."hewwo may I halp yuu) Really annoying accent the entire film and she's ugly.

-Cheesy villain dude with glasses/funny hair

    - film needs to be trimmed down and given a faster pace
