I'm thinking of going with a 48"+/- ht scissor lift like Impactco got (he has the Bend Pak unit). Anyone out there have a different one they like too?

    Anyone want to sell theirs?

This unit only raises the car to 26". The BendPak MD-6P goes to 48", is built like a tank and costs $300 less including shipping and tax. A no brainer in my opinion and I researched all the other options.

Pizzaman Chris and Eric got the same unit:

The bendpak rocks, get it. It is fantastic, and money well spent. If you search the net you can often find it for $1600 delivered (about what I paid 1-2 years ago)...

The Center of gravity (CG) is not necessery in the center of the car. Could be toward to the front or back of the car.

Snap on makes a very nice unit, though not cheap.

I have the Snap-on, and it is very heavy duty. Literally, it can lift a truck -- 9000 lbs capacity. The only problem with it is that it has a solid platform in the middle. It's not open down the middle from front to rear, as some of them are. If I were doing it again, I'd definitely look for one that is open in the middle in order to be able to service exhaust, transmission, etc. The cars we play with are all under 3500 lbs. for the most part. A 5K or 6K capacity lift will work just fine for them.

This was discussed in this thread:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159442&highlight=lift

    Potential disaster averted

The BendPak MD-6XP is open in the middle but only rated to 6,000 Lbs. The Snap-On unit is beautifully engineered but the BendPak is much less costly and similarly beefy. For the cost of the Snap-On scissor, you can get a nice BendPak 4 post lift (assuming it fits your garage space).

I researched these units fully and decided to stay away from the inexpensive Chinese clones that are available (Harbor Freight for example) . When I am sitting under my car and see the huge welds and bolts on the MD-6XP supporting 3000 pounds over my head, I'm happy I spent the $300-$500 more for the safety and security of the BendPak unit :D

How high is the lift on its max. locking position?
My Bendpak is only 42 inches locked, they advertise a 48 in lift but it will not lock in that position.

Yep, I found that out as well. That extra 6 inches would be nice - I guess you could use it at the limit but without mechanical locks at that height you would be putting all your faith in the hydraulics to keep you alive . I can live with the 42" lock limit, literally.

I bought that Snap-on used, so I didn't pay anywhere near what they sell for new. If I were doing it now, and didn't have the option of buying the lift I have used, I would definitely go for the MD-6XP. It looks very beefy, and having the open access to the middle of the car is a major benefit, even more than the extra 6" in lift height. It beats working under jack stands any day of the week.

Question to all you low lift guys:

How do you manage working/moving around under the car when it's at 48" +/- inches off the floor? Do you sit on a roll around stool, crouch, move around on your knees, what? 48" seems to be just at a level that would strain you back over a period of time since you can't stand upright.

I bought one of these from Harbor Freight and it's the perfect height. Oh, and it is actually 42" since you unfortunately cannot lock the MD-6XP at maximum height.

Mike, do you find it necessary to move the ramp planks out of the way when working under the car?

Although I can easily do so, it has not been necessary so far.

I sit on the floor, on a rolling stool or on a rolling creeper, depending what I'm doing and what angle I have to be at. When I'm sitting on the floor, I usually throw down a moving blanket, just to cushion things a little bit and so I'm not sitting directly on the concrete. And compared to crawling under the car when it is up on jackstands (with what, maybe 18" of clearance?), working under the scissor lift is a piece of cake. If I had the height in my garage, I'd get a 4 post lift. But I don't. So the scissor lift is the best possible option for my situation.

    Cliff,

I believe when they say up to 48" they are talking about the adapters that you use for the lifting points.

On our Ferrari's i'm assuming everybody is using the low rider ones. The give you 3 different height adapters.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Bob,

It has it's disadvantages i will admit. :( But we have limited ceiling height so that's the price we pay.

But overall, for me, it has worked great. I used it with no problem to change my front spoiler, change my headlights ;), front and rear shocks/springs, plus it works great for cleaning my nice 550 wheels too. (Hey, what can i say i'm lazy) :D

Very similar, Doesn't have the black side rails. I guess thats the newer model you show in the picture. I'm in Maryland just outside DC. If anyones really serious I'll try to post some pics. I've been thinking of upgrading to a full hieght for a while but haven't really motivated myself.
