My 2000 Modena F1 I just purchased makes a loud chattering sound from the front end when turning sterring wheels on very low speed, like parking on tight spot. Is this normal? No noises on any other speeds, exept knocking sounds when hitting potholes on passenger side, the selling dealer says everything is ok. Any ideas?
    Regards. Carlo.

OK Ben, I guess the rack was checked out by the Ferrari dealer, World Wide of Cars, they installed new clutch system for over $4,000.00 (under warranty) thank you. I am not sure if they tried to take care of the chattering problems because it is still there, I feel it mostly on front end, more in reverse, but goes out as soon I straighten the wheels, also I hear heavy knocking on front right sometime on rough roads at low speeds.

Steering rack or maybe check suspension components on that side. Should NOT do that !

Check the underside of your front fender. With early 360's sometime the tire turning would rub against the lip of the fender. If you see a lip turned out/down then that is the problem. Usually it is an easy fix.

However, I cannot imagine a dealer not checking for that.

Check out the lower wishbone arm balljoints and the track rod ball joints - both proned to go on the 360's. While you are at it just check the upper arm joints as well.

Had the same problem in my "99. Drove me nuts for several months, and eventually did the above ............. they replaced a ball joint and couple bushings, and it was fine after that.
