It seems odd that people wouldn't know this. All rubber components on cars dry out and rot, why would tires be different? Would someone leave belt on a car for 7 years if damage would be caused by the belt breaking? No.

Common sense doesn't exist anymore I guess.

This is a big problem in the Hummer H1 circles. Many owners are "cheaping" out by buying 15+ year 8 bolt 16.5" split wheel assemblies with dry rotted but "new" Eagle II tires that the military dumped years ago.

I keep telling owners to look for the DOT tag on tires to make sure they're made in the last 2 years. Because of the war, it's hard to order OEM spec good year and BFG hmmwv tires for 16.5" rims, so many owners are either upgrading to 17" wheels and getting new rubber or digging up old unsafe tires to mount.

People do that all the time. Cars have gotten reliable to the point that neglecting them rarely has consequences.

The kid driving that van was my niece's boyfriend when she was at Lehigh.
Let me point something out here. This is FerrariChat. We are all posting here because we are into cars.
Most people are not, they think cars are appliances and tires are curb feelers.
Andy's dad thought he was doing the right thing by getting new tires. He didn't know to check the date. I'm sure he kicks himself every day.
Let's all take a survey at work and find out how many people know tires are dated. I'll bet that most don't, and the ones that do are car buffs.

Also, most normal cars don't get 7 years on a set of tires anyway. I'd bet Ferraris have more tires "age out" than "wear out".

In contrast my daily driver Audi goes through a set of low profiles every 12,000-15,000 miles. They still smell new when they get pulled off the car...

People don't think there's a difference between gas and diesel. So it's not surprising at all.

Replace "people" with "retards" and you'll make more sense.

Informative news clip, but just a bit sensational and dramatic. Well, it's 20/20 -- what should I expect!

Yet another thing for our lawsuit-happy culture to sue about. There goes the price of tires . . .
