Hello Everyone, It is official: The 3rd Red Bluff Run will take place on November 25, 2007 at 7:00 am. I'm sorry about all of the confusion with the date change. The original date was the previous weekend. However, it came to my attention that there was a conflict with a CENLA event. So, in an attempt to accomodate more drivers, the date of the 3rd run will be November 25 (coincidentally my birthday! great present huh?) Unless the weather doesn't cooperate, or someone can give me a good reason otherwise, this date is SET IN STONE! When: Sunday, November 25th, 2007 7:00 AM Meeting place: IHOP in Covington Where to: Tail of the Little Red Dragon (Red Bluff) Bring: Your own car, cash, camera, etc. (it has also been suggested that you bring a two way radio. They are great for keeping everyone together, warning about police, road hazards, etc. They can be purchased rather cheaply at Wal-mart, radio shack, etc.) Meeting place: Be at IHOP restaurant in Covington, LA, at 325 N Highway 190 (North of I-12 on the west side of 190) (985) 893-4885. Waypoints: N 30 26.119 W090 05.099 Leaving: IHOP at 8:00am putting us at Red Bluff about 9:30am. Directions from Covington: Take 21 North to 35 bringing you almost straight to Hwy 587 (Red Bluff). Take a right on US-98. When 35 ends, make a left behind the gas station on the left side of US-98 onto 587 (west of Columbia, MS) We will run Red Bluff Road a few times beginning at the overlook past Morgantown about 10:00 am. Lunch: Meet in Monticello at Pizza Inn about 11:30 am (before the church crowd) Afternoon stop: About 2 pm at Boyd's Museum & Ice Cream Parlor at 30245 Railroad St., Angie LA (1-985-986-8411) It is full of NASCAR race memorabilia from the owner's racing days. Red Bluff is an EXTREMELY CHALLENGING ROAD! This is a rally/run and not a race. OBEY ALL LAWS! Stay in your LANE; dont cross the line, try to pass, or push a slower driver in front of you. There are over 60 turns, hard drops and hills, most are blind. There is no shoulder and few places to pull off. If you cant drive safely, STAY HOME! If you decide to participate, you and your passengers do so at your own risk and accept all liability for your actions and the actions of others both involved and not involved. Do not attempt it if you are unfamiliar with its hazards. Make sure your car is road ready. Don't forget your AAA card. I would encourage everyone to check out these three videos to get an idea of what the bluffs are like. That first blind drop into a left hand corner is just waiting for someone with more horsepower than self restraint (or brakes.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN7-QEBmz1w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6PjhWGULsQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRtRLOij-aY As you may have read, I am doing a research project for a college class involving rallying and sanctioned racing. This project is completely dependent on field research. So, in addition to the fun everyone will have, it will really be helping me out for my project. Mitchell has informed me that he will be unavailable; however, he suggested that I take the reins on this one. I have been in contact with Richard from www.Motographer.net. I am going to order a print from motographer to raffle off at lunch on the next run. I was going to do a free raffle, but If anyone can suggest a good charity I will do a raffle with an entry fee. I also need suggestions on which car to feature in the print so please voice your opinions!!! Here are the pictures from the last run: http://www.motographer.net/site/?page_id=42 The 3rd rally would primarily follow the same format as the 2nd rally. Hopefully we will be able to work out all of the complaints from the last run. If anyone is interested in co-organizing this with me, I would surely appreciate the help. I hope to hear from everyone soon. Until then, have fun and drive safely. --Mike.
I'll post here what I did in autoxforum.com I'm trying to help Mike out co-organize the event. I'd really appreciate anyone who is planning to attend dropping a post here simply saying RSVP and how many other cars are coming with you. I'm putting together fliers with the directions and general rules of the road on them along with some warning and advice for first time Bluffers. I'll distribute them in Covington in case someone gets separated they won't be completely lost. I'll also include cell #'s for important people, most likely myself and Mike if he'd like his on there too(hint hint, PM me on autoxforum if you're interested). j I'm also taking any and all comments from the last two runs to try and run a smoother event. Any advice?
I should be able to make that one. Is anyone interested in a Time Speed Distance Rally or Poker Run through south Mississippi? It might make it more interesting. Some of you new guys might want to fill out your profiles. Thanks
Great! Please invite some of your Ferrari buddies. I loves listening to 12 cylinders sing "ode to a 6 speed" last time! I might be interested in a Time Speed Distance Rally or Poker Run. You're talking about a separate event though right?
That depends. I have a route that takes in the Red Bluff road and runs for about 140 miles. It would take about 4 hrs to drive. If it is the Poker Run format, each navagatior has to draw a card at the checkpoints, the best hand wins a prize. TSD is run on exact speed and distance running each leg at the posted speed limit.
It sounds like you have done some pretty good research for this. I don't think anyone would be interested in a TSD, because we drove back like bats out of hell last time! However, I would love to drive a poker run. But I don't know if this is the day to do it. My main concern is that a lot of these people will be driving from the south shore and other parts of Louisiana, so I don't know how many would be up for a 4 hour poker run on Sunday. If we could find a way of integrating the poker run into the route that is already planned, that would be great! It would also be a great way to give away the print from Motographer. Where would you be meeting up with us if we decided to integrate a poker run?
http://www.jcna.com/library/rally/RallyChapter03.pdf Not a lot of research just some rally rules from the Jaguar Club. I'll keep everyone posted on when I get it all set up. When you have sponsors involved, you have to have a way of keeping the speed under control. The Poker Run needs to have people at the checkpoints to handle drawing of the cards and recording the hand. I don't know how you could go about having them stationed along the route up to MS. http://www.scca.com/hub.aspx?hub=2 Here is some more info from the SCCA
It would probably be best to make a separate event of it then. It would be rather difficult to get enough participant involvement to have someone at every checkpoint. This is especially true in this case, because I have found that some people are having trouble committing to an event over a month away. This upcoming run will be a great way to advertise for a poker run. Personally, I am very interested in such an event. I would advise you to get some info ready and a basic plan for the poker run to "pitch" to the drivers at this upcoming run. I think with some good planning it could be an awesome event. If you need any help in planning or executing a poker run or a Timed rally, I would be more than happy to help. Just let me know!
Go ahead and count me in. Unfortunately, all three of my sportscars are down for various reasons right now...Hopefully I will be able to get one in "rally" shape by the time this event rolls around.
Count me in! I've been wanting to drive Red Bluff road for some time now. Hopefully this will be the best turnout yet! And we definitely need to get a poker run together at some point, that sounds like a lot of fun! One way to have people at "checkpoints" is to use businesses as some of the checkpoints. Just call a few days ahead and ask them if they would mind, then leave them the cards and let the girl behind the counter, hostess at the restaurant, etc. hand out the cards. I am sure gas stations, restaurants and such would love to have all manner of exotic cars stopping by during the day.
Nathan, thats exactly what I have set up. The check points handled with one of my customers. I could tell you more but it might give their locations away.
Can you fill us in with any other details??? I'm pretty excited about that; It sounds like it will be a blast. Do you have a date picked out or anything?
No date yet, I have almost finished the route and have a great place to wind up the rally/poker run. I will PM you with the General Rules so you can get an idea of how it will work.
So, do we have a roll-call yet for all of the people who are planning on attending this get together???
Which get together are you referring to??? If you are talking about the November 25th Red Bluff run, then yes we do have a roll... It's only been planned for about a week and we have between 25-30 drivers. With a month left to get the word out, hopefully we'll get a good bit more. SO TELL EVERYONE!
Will do!!!! Sorry, but I suppose I should have been a little more clear...yes, I was referring to the run on 11/25.
I want everyone to know that I received my print from Motographer.net today... Not only is the print phenomenal, but I received my print less than 48 hours!!! This print is AMAZING. I got the matte finish and it is so incredible looking; I'm going to frame it. I would recommend that everyone take advantage of this rare opportunity and order a print of your car. I'm going to order a print of the other picture he took of my car. It's only like $45 plus shipping... So lets all show our appreciation and order a damn print!!! THANKS RICHARD!!!
I'm still planning on making this event. Cajun, if your cars are still down, you're more than Welcome to tag along with me.
*****ATTENTION****** At this time, it is uncertain whether we will have a professional photographer for the 3rd run. Both of the photographers that we have worked with in the past might be unavailable. If ANYONE is a skilled photographer, or if you know professional photographers who would be interested in shooting the 3rd run, PLEASE CONTACT ME A.S.A.P!!! Email me at [email protected] or call me at 985-705-6275 --Mike
I have to do this for liability reasons gentleman so I am not going to be at the next run that Mike is putting together and I will state for the record that I have nothing to do with the next run. I in no way endorse or sponsor this event. Mitchell
Does anyone plan to bring their wives or sigificant other to the Nov. 25th Red Bluff Ralley? I saw very few at the last one.
