Hi Guys, In my 1984 308 GTS QV toolkit the pliers have bright blue plastic handles. I know in earlier 308's the pliers are red handled and the 328's are also red, pointed and with the Ferrari logo on them usually. I have seen the blue handled pliers in one other 1984 308 QV that I know is a one owner original car,so I am wondering what other owners have in their toolkit? Also did 308 QV's come with the red battery carry strap as part of the toolkit? My factory 1983 parts manual doesn't show it. Thanks in advance for your help, P
I have a red in my 85 QV kit. I might be missing a wrench. Do you have one smaller than 5mm? I have 1 wrench slot empty after that 7/5mm.
Battery straps were introduced with 328's. My '84 QV, 51429, came with the blue pliers. I replaced it with the red version with Ferrari imprint. On a side note this type of plier is rather useless in a car toolkit unless one is planning to perform electrical work.
Blue handled pliers with my '84 308 QV 52199 built in June. No battery strap in mine but it may have been lost in 26+ years. Is someone starting a 308 QV toolkit registry?
Mine are blue. The plating is totally crap - factory original lousy. No battery strap. If you are chasing tool kit completeness make sure you have the set of belts and the spark plug. even better if you have the spark plug in the original box. I was told that the triangle reflector was not normal for US deliveries. Jeff Image Unavailable, Please Login
There are no pliers in an early tool kit......LOL! Wrenches, screwdrivers, carb wrench, window crank, and a plug tool...
Just about anyone should be able to supply better "quality". Plating on my set is falling off and as best I can tell some of this stuff never, ever got used. I will have some of my items replated at a point in time but have already cautioned the people that they will have to do a quality level that is equivalent to the factory original crap level; they may not know how to function at that low level. Blue handled pliers with my '84 308 QV 52199 built in June. No battery strap in mine but it may have been lost in 26+ years. Is someone starting a 308 QV toolkit registry? Thanks for all your posts/reply's guys! Very helpful... Reason I asked the question was for the purposes of Concours judging and originality! Again another example of Ferrari using whatever was too hand I think? My serial # is 52763,built September 1984. It seems for some reason that 308 qv's got the blue pliers in the toolkit starting on cars with the serial #5.... Another one owner car I know off that is 100% original and has a chassis#beginning with 5 also has the blue pliers and it too is a 1984 model.... P
If you want to include all the assorted items then the light bulb & fuse container needs to be addressed. Here is mine. Note: the blank space in the center is for the Euro headlight bulb which was not part of a US build car. 1985 54573 build: November 1984 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Actually the lid on my holders has "ROTOR" stamped on it, so I assumed that was the intent of the middle clamp....??? Of course there should be two of them for a North American car!! LOL!
Hi Guys, Just to add to the discussion, here's the tool kit from my '82 GTSi Euro. I'm pretty sure it's the same kit as the early QV's because my serial number (42995) is actually later than some of the first QV's. The kit should be complete with the exception of a missing socket spanner, and possibly the wrong 14mm wrench, which is a 14mm combination instead of a 14/15mm open (although it is the same make as the others: Polytools-Italy). The 14mm looks original and the impression in the vinyl bag makes me think it's been there since new. If anyone has some insight on this I'd be interested to know. Also if someone could post a photo of the socket spanner I'm missing it would be greatly appreciated. It may be kicking around in one of my tool boxes and I don't even know it. Thanks. Hi Eric, my 84 (49455) has exactly the same as yours. Also I notice you have the label on you belts that looks like Gates label, do you mind telling me the P/N of the Gates belts, thansk.
Cool Mike, that's great to know. Here's a close up of the Gates labels, showing the part numbers. (7M 975 and 11M 925) Couple of question for you: Does your kit have the 14/15mm open end wrench, or the 14mm combo like mine? Could you post a photo of your socket wrench? (mine's missing) Thanks. Eric, thanks for the close-up shot of the labels/tag of the belts. As far as the wrench goes and I didn't really know until now that I also don't have the 14/15mm open end only the 14mm open/box wrench just like yours. The only diff in your kit that I noticed is that you don't have the black T-bar in your set, maybe not required for your year. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Speaking of toolrolls, would one of you lucky blokes who actually have them care to take some measurements? I have some extra material and I'm going to take a stab at making my own pouch. I'm looking for measurements on: - Overall open pouch size - Height and width of tool "pockets" - Size of snap closure flap - Size of - Location of snaps Also, dimensions of the pouch for the tire changing tools would be great.
Mike, Thanks a million, you solved the mystery for me. It appears that the socket wrench shown in the manual did not originally come with our vintage of car. I do have that window wrench that you show (mines the earlier crank version), but I didn't know that that's where it went (see my next post). Not that I was losing any sleep over it, but it's nice to know I have the complete original kits. Eric.
Here's some photos that might help you. Let me know if you need any more info. Eric. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
