Should Todt be removed ?

Now we have really returned to the Ferrari supporters of old.

A few bad races and SACK him they cry ... thus they did/do and thus they destablise the team and then it takes even MORE years/seasons to climb back up to the front.

Yeah maybe the Ferrari team have become complacent (I predicted they would ... ) but running around sacking people is not the answer, instead they probably need to move a few people around, feed in some new blood and share this information with the fan base, thus setting expectations that it will take a season or 2 to get stable and winning again (as they have left this too late).

We have to accept that change is a scary word to Italians and Ferrari, thus they were always going to run the same old team until it was inept.

I was just looking at some old F1 stories on the internet. In 1996 there were calls for Todt's head. Imagine if they had listened then?

A major part of Ferrari's dominance over the last 5 year has been the STABILITY within the team. Pistole, is this how you would manage your own company? Fire people at the frist sign of trouble, regardless of track record? I hope not!

I urge you to do a little research on both Jean Todt and the Ferrari F1 team over the past 20 years before making such a statement. Going around axing people is the fast way to the back of the grid; just ask Ferrari in the early 1990's.

 

No they don't need to axe Todt. That would be fairly stupid of them plus isn't he running thier road car division too now? If i were looking to do anything different it would be in a chief engineer type of role maybe switch some people around between Rubens and Michael's teams, but i don't think i'd fire anyone. Maybe just shake things up a little.

 

Todt should have been sacked in 1999 for throwing in the towel after Silverstone and I think Luca had a word or two with Jean thereafter.

Some thought Todt deserved to have been sacked after Zeltweg and the appauling team order to steal Rubens' victory.

However he does not deserve to get sacked now. The Bridgestone gamble could have worked. If you're in such a competitive group you take chances. You have to accept risk, he did just that. I'm sure he'll get the team back out of the hole as well. He is the right man for the job. And I hate to say that after 1999. That still hurts.

 

Great, the witch-hunt has began. I guess the mob-mentality was about to start somewhere and sometime. Todt was very instrumental with the reviving Ferrari's F1 program, and with one crappy season and people are calling for his head already? Jean Todt does not design the cars, develop the tyres or do any of the R&Ds. This season is not Todt's fault and is not solely Bridgestones' fault. Ferrari wins World titles together, and will lose the 2005 title together, maybe. The season is not over yet, it may not be rosey so far and is going to be tough to fight back, but still possible. I would not hang it up until they are mathmatically eliminated from the championships.

 

I here Niki Lauda is looking for a job, So is Eddie Ervine. !!

Aw shucks, just give everyone else a chance. They have been working hard too.

Besides, the other teams are always looking over thier backs and wondering if they are really prepared for the insurgance of the Ferrari's.

 

Pistole, back when Ferrari was winning all those championships had you ever complimented Jean Todt in particular? Cause if you hadn't, and now with a bad season you quickly recognise Jean to be 'axed' then you are being pretty unfair. All sports have ups and downs, you can't expect Ferrari to win forever, plus as someone had already mentioned, its only the start of the season...

Absolutely not. That would be a huge mistake.

 

Ferrari is a TEAM. It takes ALL PLAYERS to make it work. It is the case of too many rule changes and too much politics. Let's get back to RACING. Quit the whining and crying with the would have , should have, etc. I commend ANYONE who would try to fill Jean Todt's boots right now. Not just anyone could 'take over' and instantly repair everything.

I'm sitting here trying to decide whether this or the "Is Jenson Button Gay" thread the stupidest thread ever on Ferrari Chat.

Without Jean Todt Ferrari would be languishing at the back of the pack. He is as much a reason for the past WC as is MS. Sacking him would only ensure that Ferrari would never have a chance at the championship. He was the one that ended the infighting and politics Ferrari was known for. If they'd only had him sooner. We probably would have had titles for both Prost and more importantly for Alisi.

Ferrari is not out of this title fight. Strange bizarre things happen in racing. All you need is for Alonso’s tire to pick up a small carbon shard during a race and suddenly he's back in midfield or out of the race. I remember a few years back when the McLarens ran off with the first few races and everyone was screaming the season was over. MS fought back then and he'll do it again.

WTF??? Ferrari was not ready to bring the new car out, but brought out 3 races early because the competition got tired of getting their teeth bashed in by Ferrari and did some serious work to not only catch up but to pass.

Look at the lap times this year. Ferrari is faster than last year, but the other top teams are even faster.

They just got caught with their pants down. They will be back. But they have to get the tires to last by either chassis/suspension improvements or by actual tire compound/construction improvements.

Jean Todt is the "biggest" reason why Ferrari came back in the first place. Michael, just made it easier.

 

Great post - only one that makes any sense. How many times does Michael always congratulate the "team" or reference the team - he's never talked in terms of me, me, me like some others.

In our numerous visits to the factory and our dealings with Ferrari representatives, there is not a clearer picture painted - TEAM. (Together everyone achieves more).

Now the real Ferrari supporters will stand out in the crowd. We will stay behind them no matter what. We don't bash them, demand heads on plates, or make accusations. We will encourage them.

They are just two schumucks that Formula One doesn't need anymore. Niki was great in the car but outside of it I wouldn't trust him to run a lemonade stand. Irvine is just trying to extend his 15 min of fame. He should go back to playing with his helicopter .

 

Peering into the crystal ball.....deeper.... what do I see.....Todts replacement IS....Paul Stoddart. Oops sorry, that was the punch bowl turned upside down.

 

You bring up a good point: Whoever will be the replacement of Todt, I hope that Jean is grooming that person right now so the new team manager will be ready when that time eventually comes. It seems to me, that finding good team managers is almost more difficult than good drivers. For those there is a whole racing career system in place, but where do you find a team boss?

 

Todt's replacement: Schumacher, that it is the only person I see that can run the Ferrari team successful after Todt leaves. If they going to get rid of anybody from Ferrari because of their dissapointing results, it would be whoever decided to stick with Bridgestone(I hope that's not Todt).
