It wouldn't be a bad move on McLaren's part, I personally wish he goes to Williams, but I don't think they can afford him. I think him not living in Germany didn't help matters.

    Toyota: Gascoyne has been suspended

Toyota Motorsport has this morning confirmed that technical director Mike Gascoyne has left his position at the Formula One team, but the company said the Briton has been "suspended".

Reports emerged yesterday that Gascoyne had left Toyota after more than two years, following a period of strained relationship with the senior management and as part of a major reshuffle at the team.

A Toyota Motorsport spokesman effectively confirmed this morning the deteriorating relationship between the sides.

The spokesman said: "Due to a fundamental difference of opinion with regard to the technical operations of its Formula One team, Toyota Motorsport has suspended its Technical Director Chassis, Mike Gascoyne, until further notice.

"Toyota Motorsport will not make any additional comments on this matter at this time."

Isn't that what they said when he left Jordan?

    Er, Renault?

Jordan is a hopeless case. Doesn't matter whether he is there or not.

Renault has tons of other good people. Doesn't matter as much there either.

Toyota is, err was Gascoyne. Without him they got nothing.

Honda is the big winner in this.

Look what happened to Jordan after he left.

Remember what people said when he left Renault? Sayers of nay and doom, all.

Gascoyne probably chafed at being made to work off of Ferrari blueprints, hence his dismissal. Toyota with or without him will still be Toyota, and if they can't cheat to win, they won't ever win.

I thought cheating was a way of life in F1 ?

Or at least stealing others' designs.

He is better off without Toyota, he will end up at McLaren or may even replace Aldo Costa at Ferrari, who knows?

Autosport is reporting that he is suspended, which means Toyota is probably paying him to stay home so he doesn't go to another team like McLaren

I remember reading something about Mike Gascoigne earlier. Mike is not like Adrian Newey who is apt to draw some new design for a halfshaft the back of a cocktail napkin while on a holiday at a beach. Adrian hates getting bogged down in the managing of a department and people.

By contrast, Mike's strength is in people management - he seems to be good at getting the right people and nurturing them.

Interesting to see two different character types and both successful.

I think Toyota must be really pissed off at the lack of performance in the last two years. Sad considering that TOyota suddenly performed well in Australia. Ralfie boy and Jarno need to ratchet their performance upward or they also will be givent he heave-ho

A friend of mine works for Toyota and says they are fair, honest but really demanding.

I bet the difference in future direction is that Toyota wants to actually win a race. In R&T a few months ago they mentioned that T was planning on introducing their new supercar (500hp, V8 or V10 deal) this summer when they won their first formula 1 race. I guess God missed the memo b/c that looks a bit presumptuous.

Didn't hear from my buddy Alonso. Odd, normally he calls right after breakfast. :)

There goes Toyota's chances... Also any team that picks him up wont see any benefits till next season, soo he might take his time choosing.
