We got it on Sunday and it is a new toy for a while. I want to learn how to ride it and work on it. It's different from the cars we have and looks like fun to have for a while. It is a 1990 Honda CBR600F. If anyone has any information about forums or part sources that would be great. I am in Atlanta, so close to here would be great.

It is exactly like a Hurricane. You can use the same parts and everything. Very nice F2. I want to keep the paint on ours, but get it redone. It's pretty scraped up and needs new cowls. I am learning on it, so I don't want to get it redone til I'm better on it.

Nicely bought as a starter bike.

I dont know of any specific owners groups for the old CB's but I'm sure a google search will find you something.

Used parts shouldnt be too hard to find at local bike wrecking yards.

You can prolly still get most parts from Honda... you'd be suprised what can still be in the parts supply chain for some older bikes.

check out a MSF course and or a trackday novice class.

well done. Have fun. Wear your gear (always). Be safe.

    a little bit of advice...

do a complete service on the bike. Drain and replace all fluids, including brake fluid, change the plugs, look at the air filter. Who knows when it was last done. Old brake fluid can give you VERY weak brakes on a bike. It will also let you take a look around under the fairings, get to know where everything is. Give it a good clean up with the fairings off too. You can spot leaks (if any) easier. Little things can make a big difference on a bike. A slight oil leak on a car might just dirty up the engine, on a bike it can slick up a rear tire, and thats trouble. Best to know when/where/how trouble might start.

Its not "life and death"... on my bikes I pay just a little more attention to those sort of things as the consequences of something going bad can be bigger than with a car.

Get a clymers or a factory shop manual. do a service. Have a beer or two while doing it.... have fun.

If you have not taken the Dot motorcycle drivers course yet GO DO IT

But one thing Chop's was right as usual with the bike stuff, make sure your tires are good, not just "Safety" tires make sure the fluids are fresh and topped. Driving a bike is firstly VERY defensive it will make you a much better car driver. be aware of your surroundings to the point of obsession. There are some drivers who, even if they are looking right at you, don't see you. Assume everyone is trying to kill you and you will be fine. take it easy and then look into the CMRA or AMA to see if they have a biginner and advanced road racing school handy to you. SHUT UP PARK THE EGO AND LEARN.

and get your self some good riding equipment (Joe Rocket makes some good warm weather riding iron)

Thanks to everyone that replied. We have done some work to make sure everything is clear. We have to continue with more to make sure it is even better. I do need to do the DOT courses and other ones in my area. I have joined cbrforum.com, but I will look into the other ones.
I am really looking forward to getting to know my bike better and enjoy it more.
Does anyone know if you can use a karting helmet for bikes or can you use a bike helmet for karts? I need a new helmet and I was wondering which way I go, so I can use it for both.

Now you've stepped in it.. the helmet contraversy...

well, a while back Motorcyclist Magazine did a BIG test on lots of different helmets...

Near the top were the cheapest helmets, Scorpion brand being one of them. Top brands like Arai, Shoei and Suomy didnt do so well.

again, there are theories to support all sides of the helmet wars.

most important is to get one that fits you right, then go from there with features, budget... so forth.

A karting helmet? dunno what the difference is between them and motorcycle helmets... but I'd err on the side of safety and get the gear designed for the task. Get yerself a gen-u-whine motorsicle helmet.

Actually, if you reread the article, the Suomy was the BEST performing helmet they tested. It is BTSI and NOT Snell rated, which was the basis of the article-- Snell is not the end-all-be-all helmet rating. I bought my Suomy Spec 1-R Extreme after reading both parts.

Ventilation, aerodynamics, and weight also play a big part in safety, imho. Especially in hot climates.

I bought a KBC VR2 after reading that article. Good looking helmet, fairly light weight, and inexpensive. However, KBC must hate air, because none of it enters their helmets. The first 90 degree day convinced me to sell the helmet and get another Arai. Went down in a race last year, with my Arai. Bounced on my head at well over 100mph, and walked away with nothing more than a concussion.

Ever notice how you either have an Arai head, or a Shoei head? SHape and fit wise, I mean.

I like the way Shoei's give people "Coolio" hair.

Can you get non SNELL rated Suomy's in the US?

I'll have to check with the Soumy rep and see...

For street riding, I like the Fieldsheer Highland suit.

One piece, zips all the way down to the boot, adequate ventilation, great liner for winter (28 degrees and no cold air) and plenty of armor.

    Hola Martin. ¿Como estás?
Yes the CBR600F and Hurricane are the same thing. They use the same parts and have the same cowls, as I have read. If someone has any information different please correct me. I am learning and I read that they are the same.
