    Attention first-time posters!

This is an awesome community. Your first post will say a lot about you. Nobody's going to become upset if you forgot to search or fill out your profile, those aren't biggies. But please don't be disrespectful.

We want you to be here and welcome you--but don't be a tool.

Here are two threads by two new posters to illustrate the issue.

    1. How Not To Make An Entrance on FerrariChat
    By: DannyM383

    Thread 1 (A bit shady):
Hey, Im new to this board and need some help
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112953

Thread 2 (Complete disaster, ends with DannyM383 in a g-string):
FERRARI OWNERS...make the wife happy,FERRARI TRADE OPPORTUNITY
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113182

    2. The Right Way To Introduce Yourself To FerrariChat
    By: XR4turbo

    So yeah I love Ferraris
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113079

Well done, XR4turbo! You're a young enthusiast and will make a great owner some day soon.

If you're young: FINE! Not a problem! There are many young people here, current owners and future owners in the making and dreamers alike.

If you don't have a Ferrari: FINE! Not a problem! Many of us are quite new to ownership ourselves and started on the board pre-Ferrari! That's what it's here for!

If you can't write: Well this is a bit of a problem. Please try to capitalize and use punctuation so that people can understand your post. Do not post like you're having a text messaging conversation with someone. "I" instead of "i" and "you" instead of "u" and "I'm" instead of "im".

If you're trying to sell something: (a) Consider building a reputation here first. (b) You'll also need to subscribe. (c) If you're selling a car, use www.ferrariads.com (related to this site). (d) If you're selling something else, you need to be a paid advertiser.

    Welcome aboard!

Thanks for this post Mike, this info should posted on the top of our board- it is desperately needed to fend off people with nothing meaningful to say.

I could if i could be botherd to scan through the years of threads. Alot of us notice how certain people jump on the new guys and its been mentioned quite a few times by people who have noticed.
There is a history of people jumping on the attacking/giving a hard time band wagon on this forum, it almost started on the top example link that you posted. But there are alot worse cases that have gone on.

Thanks for clarifying. Hopefully with people making better entrances, the heat on the new guys will naturally subside.

FWIW, I agree that the response to the first thread got a little hot, but it wasn't out of line in my opinion. It got worse as the guy's posts got worse. Look who he turned out to be.

You could also mention that it is fairly easy to spell check your post before you submit it. All I do is Copy/Paste into Microsoft Word and let it do the work.

    Mike,

    great job.

    One issue.

If they can't read all you said is valueless, and from what I have seen lately, there are a few who can't read!

One to add, no CarFax requests first post!

It's a shame that this needs to be said. I joined here not long ago myself and in general I feel welcome and really like to post here. I do not own an F-car, it is a dream and a passion of mine that one day I will, but for now family obligations take priority. It's still nice to be here and garner knowledge from you all and I look forward to one day posting pics of my own.

If you can lurk for a while, join when you are comfortable and post when you feel ready you will make many friends that share the same passion as you do.

I think that you should add don't use phrases like "all you posing rich guys are just jealous of me kuz i am 22 and gots what you cant have"

I've said it before and I won't say it again. OK I probably will but who cares.

There needs to be a welcome message or e-mail sent to everyone who signs up that tells them the basic ground rules and gives them some tips. A lot of folks don't frequent boards like this and have no idea how things work. I didn't when I first signed up!

Seems like it would be very easy to make an auto-generated email that would go out to new members and not allow them to post until they have clicked back into a "ground rules and basic operations" thread.

I agree with the first post, although maybe there could be a subsection for posters who want to use all the abbreviation and talk trash. On the college sports web sites they call it the smack talk room. Maybe if that section were available any junk can be moved there by the moderators. Kewl ideya if ur gonna be down wit it.

Don't forget the folks who don't use the 'search' function for their first post so we end up with the weekly Rendezvous and how to buy a 355 threads amongst many many others !

Another bigtime caution to new users.

I emplore you to NOT misrepresent yourself here. Lying, embelleshing, lying through ommission, etc...

All very very bad ideas to do here. Many members take keen pleasure in outting potential frauds. And trust me, members here have access to lots of information. If you choose to ignore this warning you will be found out and you will be made an example of!!!

    Fchat has some serious detectives...:)

not to hi-jack the thread but I feel like one of them. It was an honor to find and share pictures of Dan Cieneweski on the web, and also get in contact on the web to Dan's close friends to find out what he does for a living. And find the tax records on his parents property, and that lead to Google Earthing where he lives. So yes, just a little detective work... :)
