http://www.forzamotorsports.com/photos2.htm Looks like crap...but its cheap. This would be a fun project for someone to putz with, assuming you could be happy with a very high mileage driver. I wonder what it needs to "run"? I know it would take a fortune to make the car into something pretty. But if you just wanted to get it to "run", and just play with it or track it then....? I wonder what it will sell for. $13,000 seems optimistic for a nonrunning car. I could see $6000...
Depends why it doesn't run. If it's through lack of use, then the price seems fair. If there is something more serious wrong with the engine then I'd walk away, because you could by a running car for less than the cost of an engine rebuild. It would certainly be interesting to find out more.
Wow, look at the motor picture. Definetly needs all new hoses, probablly all new seals, etc... Rear bumper missing the rubber cover, front bumper has hit something as its pushed in. Rusty rocker panels. 90,000KM's. Atleast she has been driven!!! I'd love to have this for a parts car! Could take what I need and sell off the rest. JIM
come on guys, thats a parts car. They seem to get worse and worse all the time. 13,500 for parts is fine if the con rods are in the block where they belong.
i sold my series one with a rebuilt engine and trans for $15k. no freaking way that car is worth $13k. i would rather have a euro car though..
Diamond in the rough if you ask me. Get it for $10K. You have a track car or something to restore which will be the cream of the crop! Early euro Dino badged!! I think it's sweet. <scheming> No, Christine will kill me. Forget it. Someone else buy it. Birdman
Ok here is where we start slagging this car Has that engine bay been under water? What happened to the air filter nuts? How does the oil cap rust like that? The ignition leads look new at least
How's this for an idea....(Probablly can't do it now, but its a daydream....) Pick it up for the motor. Rebuild it, have it ready to go then each time I need to do a major, swap out the motor and take the time to do the other one. OR pick up the car for a parts car, rebuild the motor and sell it for a tidy sum along with pieces of the car I don't use. Could be profitable. JIM
Good point on the motor! The car looks like its been outside for a while. (Along with the Maser next to it!) Going to need some TLC, that's for sure. Although, wasn't the Carobu car in pretty sad shape when they started that project? JIM
The marker writing on the top of the oil filter says 78 as in 1978 was the last oil change?! That is one ugly engine compartment. Having it sit in the snow sure isn't going to help the rust issues either. It seems like every time someone adds an emblem to a car (in this case the cavalino emblem), they put it on crooked...
Guys, I visited Peter's shop today and saw the 308GT4. I was looking at another car but decided to take a quick peak because I knew this thread existed. I did not poke too deeply because it was squeezed in pretty tightly but I did lift the engine cover. The car is not a creampuff but I think it will make a pretty fun driver and everything seemed to be there. According to Peter, the engine turns freely so if someone is interested, it may be worth their time to spend an afternoon with the car and figure out what's wrong. I think it would be a fun winter project if the desired result was a fun driver rather than a showcar. Regards, Art S. Disclaimer, do not treat what I have said as any sort of PPI.
Thanks for the compliment! I have a soft spot for the 74 Euro GT4! It would be a fun resto project, but I don't have the budget for that. Maybe somebody here does.... JIM
I'm thinking about it. Is the suspension, brakes, and uprights the same on a GT4 as a 308? Thanks, Sean
Its going to be a lot of work but it is a Dino badged Euro car..... I am wondering if the car has been hit on the front passenger side -the pop up headlight is not sitting right and the front bumper is bent up in that same area.... I think the inspection will show that there is a whole lot of rust..and maybe a whole lot of bondo too.. If you see rust on the parts where you usually don't on the oil filler cap etc., its been sitting in the elements for a while.... The normal places you see rust like the rockers and the doors etc. might be a mess. To really do it right, it is going to need the motor out and a lot of new metal I suspect.
If you are referring to parts then the front shocks are the same, the front and rear brakes are the same, the rear shocks are different. The front springs are the same as the GTS.The steering rack is the same. The A-arms are the same as are the bushings. The rear sway bar is different I cant remember for the front though.
As far as I know they are the same,at least thats what the spare parts book cross ref states.Gearbox, diff and motor are the same with the exception of a few things in the engine compartment like the radiator expansion tank. The radiator is the same on the GTB as is the oil cooler. The A/c compressor is the same. The headlight motors(also the same as Testarossa),wiper motor and electric window motors are the same.Brake booster and master cylinder are also the same Some other useful/useless GT4 information: The GT4 outer door handles are the same as Fiat X19,Lamborghini Urraco and I think Lancia Stratos The inner door handles are the same as Fiat 850 coupe The front bonnet release lever is the same as Maserati Merak,Bora and Lamborghini Contach
Guys I got to tell you I have been thinking about this poor old 74. That 79 that just sold for $35K set a high water mark of recent memory. If I had an extra parking spot, I would buy this car and competely dismantle. I would actually sell the engine and other parts to finance the project. Take the whole thing down to metal save the usable parts Ebay and sell everything else including as I say even the engine. And if anything mothball it and you own it for nothing or rebuild it right on the spot... Cut out the rust and mothball and look for parts. The hubcaps are worth probably close to $800. Ebay those Cromodoras and work on the body. By the time you parted out the garbage that people still buy!!, you would have the car for free. They would come a little off the $13.5K I bet. Its just rusting away out in the snow I'm sure. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
