    I've just returned from five days in Germany taking in the Nurburgring and the sites around the Cologne/Koln area. The roads and driver behaviour in Germany should be a lesson to us Brits who often hog the incorrect lanes and generally offer a poor standard of driving. It was soooo refreshing to encounter good driver discipline on the autobahns where unlimited speeds are allowed in certain areas. It was a joy cruising at 150 MPH with other drivers using their mirrors correctly and moving over in plenty of time. I had a little "run" with an Audi R8 in total confidence and safety.

    GPS accuracy and totally legal :)

    I really wish we had an autoban-like system here in the US.
    Then again, given some of the clowns on the public roadways, maybe not.

    My 360 got to 170 without too much of a problem, the last 10 MPH or so took a little bit more time than I thought it would. It felt quite stable at these speeds although any slight movement of the steering wheel resulted in a little nervousness felt (mainly from my underpants area ;)). I only got to 183 once for about 15 seconds due to increasing traffic and I didn't want to push my luck too far! BTW, the speedo was showing just over 190 with the GPS at 183.

    If you think Brits don't know what lane to be in, try driving in the States. I often drive in England and love it because people actually move over when you come up behind them, we is the U.S. could learn a thing or two from you guys.

    I agree

    North American driving is from what Ive seen about the worst.
    The Brits and Germans are excellent in my book!

    You must not have seen UAE driving. It's not dangerous till you have kids in souped up ATVs doing wheelies through intersections.

    Haven't been driving in GB, but the Germans are fantastic. American drivers suck arse, and need to all take driving lessons, but more importantly courtesy lessons.

    Took a Ford Taurus Wagon on the Autobahn and was up around 145mph in it. People actually move over (as did I for the Mercedes and BMW 7 series coming up quickly :)

    Also took a Golf TDI for two laps of the 'Ring - was incredible! (Against rental agreement :eek:)

    I so wish we could have a few roads like that here in the USA East of the Mississippi.

    Very cool!!

    And to echo everyone else: Having the awareness to move over with a car barreling down on you at 150+ is something everyone could learn a lesson from.

    Speed is not necessarily dangerous. It's how you, and those around you, handle it.

    If everybody drove like the germans on public roads, the world would be a better place. They take their german precision in to their driving. Disipline, structure and clever.

    Max'd it out, redlined in 6th. Something not often able to do with these cars.
    Yes. the decrease in acceleration due to air pressure is very noticable at these higher speeds, isn't it? Need a lot good road.
    Were your tyres new? A failure at that speed would be. um....not good.
    A 911 on a track day here crashed last week doing around 210 km/h due to blowout. car written off and broken ribs etc.

    They are about 18 months/2000 miles old (manufactured in 2006). At 2000 miles old, the rears are just under half worn! :eek:

    Where in Germany did you find enough straight clear autobahn to max out the 360?

    Very cool! Precious few American drivers understand interstate etiquette and it drives me mad!

    I used to trust my GPS's 'more accurate' speedometer over my vehicle's until I recently got popped for 103mph despite the GPS's 93mph display :rolleyes:

    The Brits are pretty good as well. Lane discipline in the States is basically non existent. The situation isn't helped by "passing on the inside" not being illegal in many states. Round here (lets say 101 and 280) the "slow" lane is usually *empty* - Fastest lane on the freeway - Plus, there's generally an escape lane to the right should anyone move over...... I could (and often do!) rant on this for ages - So many people enter the f/way and immediately move into the 3rd (of 4) lanes and basically stop - It's like they simply don't look ahead at all.

    However, please don't tell anyone the slow lane is the fastest - My g/f has taken to calling it "Ians private lane", and that suits me just fine :)

    Hmmm - Not good. Mine shows pretty much what you'd expect - The speedo reads slightly higher than "reality", and the disparity gets larger the faster you go. If the 100mph # is significant I'd even be inclined to argue a little - I fail to see how a "good" gps system can be that wrong.....

    Mine me asking what the unit is? - I guess if it's one designed for hiking/biking they're not too concerned about these speeds (!), but if it's an automotive version I'd certainly investigate further - That far off says either the cop was wrong or your unit is bad.
