Well I finally started my 30k tonight. It's been a complete thrill finally getting into the internals. The lift is really convenient. I have about 75% of the disconnections complete. Didn't have big enough wrenches for the oil pipe tubes so I will get those tomorrow. I will post a few pics tomorrow. Going pretty slow as I am taking it all in. My dolly should be ready tomorrow as well. What a thrill working on a Ferrari!

Good luck, taking it slow is a very good idea. I look forward to seeing pictures of your work.

All the best! I, too, am looking forward to doing my own, 30K on my F355. I haven't really had the chance to do anything of real substance to her yet, and I don't have a major due until almost 1.5 years (going with a 3 year/30 K schedule). I did all the work on my two 308s and my 328, so I miss it! It's time consuming, but very rewarding knowing that everything is being done slowly and correctly. Plus you can really check everything out by close inspection and detail the entire engine compartment. So, good luck, keep us updated, and please post pictures.

Thanks for the pictures. That's a nice deep garage. Most of ours in the U.S. are wide, but not deep. Should give you plenty of room to work.

    cool! good luck!

I am confused though, since it looks like you are lifting the rear of the car by the motor cage, so how are you going to drop it out of there? Shouldn't you have lifted by the jack points infront of the rear wheels?

They are there temporarily for the disconection phase (hoses, wires, etc). As soon as I am ready to drop the cradle I will lower the car temporarily supporting rear and re-position the lift so its off the cradle. The reason I did this is because I really dont like (safety) the center of gravity point when the rear lift points are so far from the back of the car - the heaviest part of the car completely unsupported. I might be worried about nothing here but its completely new territory for me (Ferrari and lift) so I am erring on the side of caution.

I have seen several others do this same thing with 348s and 355s. I always support my 355 on the rear cradle for safety too.

It would be prudent to talk to a few people "in the know" about recalls and replacements. Give Daniel at Ricambi a ring and be sure you replace whatever timing pulley it is on some 348s that can fail. Maybe its well known, but there were 2 failures within 1 month of each other (on sister cars, one vin apart) both with blown belts. Both cars had missed updates during their history.

    Looks like fun, enjoy!

Very spacious garage, maybe not as polished looking as some of the others have posted but the Ferrari flag makes up for that :)

Thats really good to know - thanks. I bought my 30k kit from Daniel a few months back and have the upgraded hill tensioner bearings. Its interesting you bring this up because in the last few months I have had a 'chirping' noise at the firewall on the right bank - I am pretty sure it is the tensioner. Probably should have disconnected the alternator and aircon belts and started the car to verify the source but did not. Needless to say the driving experience was somewhat lessened when you are paranoid about belt failier. Can't wait to check out the old tensioners - I will report my findings.

Yeah I know - pretty drabby compared to most others. This is an old house I bought quite awhile back and I am planning a complete garage re-model next spring. I want my black/white checkered floor! :)

It seems a lot of garages in the U.K. are leaving the front wheels on, as well as adding approximately 200 lbs. of weight to the front compartment, if no high, adjustable stand (i.e., exhaust shop stand) is available to secure the rear end. With the rear tires off and engine in, this is supposed to bring the center of balance pretty close to the factory jack points. When you go to actually drop the engine, I'd probably remove the front compartment weights, first, to avoid a front end-heavy condition after the engine is dropped (does this sound logical to everyone else, or should the weights be left in?).

This would seem to make pretty good sense - I know from experimenting with the rear lift points just before the cradle (cradle not supported) the car seemed terribly rear heavy - there was a wildly large gap between the door and the rear quarter panel as well.

Well this is bad dream material! I'll keep this image fresh in mind. Yeah I was lucky that my garage is a good size - installing a lift was not on my mind when I bought this place. My lift is a 9000 lb base plate type that is designed to have free standing posts but as you can see in my pics I had extensions made at a local welding shop to take them right to the ceiling - 6" carriage bolts going into the 2x8 rafters. The extra support buys peace of mind. I will post pics and my experiences to the bloody end. :)

Had a great saturday night engine out party with a few buddies - I cant believe f-dealerships charge $$ to do your major service - this was the most fun I've had in a long time. Got the engine out very smoothy. It took 13 hours of casual work. I can't believe how well you get to know the car when you get your hands dirty. Heres the ferrari scene in Nova Scotia on saturday night...

By the way guys, it was really easy to remove the enigne with the aircon pump left on the car - no freon evacuation needed. I will do a write up at some point on the detailed precedure as there is one trick involved.
