Today I've entrusted my 328 to a proven specialist in Wales for a full, glass out, bare metal respray. Whilst the Car is in OK condition it had picked up a number of minor dints in it's 20 Years together with some dubious repainting both on the front and the Engine cover, it'll be nice to have a 328 that is all the same shade of Rosso Corsa :)

i'll post pics of it's progress as they arrive but a few below of my car next to one that's just coming to the end of it's treatment

You might confirm they plan to save your rear window gasket, or that you have a replacement sourced before the glass comes out. Pricey and hard to come by.

A proper re-spray makes such a huge difference! But soon you'll start noticing other imperfections that don't live up to the quality of your paint.
    It's a slippery slope.....

Looking forward to seeing the results!

Aren't these cars galvanized? If so, I wouldn't want to sand any panel to the bare metal unless it had already been from previous repair.

Look forward to seeing the pictures.

That 348 in the background looks awesome. Heard it's quite rare as well.

Must be a popular place for exotics eh?? 3 Ferraris there now and I remember Tony took his Stradale there to get the front bar resprayed not too long ago. :):)

Their quality of work must be great if ALL you guys go there! :D:D

Al is building a fine reputation for doing work far better than most have seen before and at a price that is much lower than even a reasonable number :)

I went down to check him out a few weeks ago. What a really nice guy and totally enthusiastic about the process.

There was a 328 totally stripped and in first primer coat, looking good. And an Ford Escort Cosworth in the corner, finished and awaiting collection. The paint was like silk and reflections of the flourescent light were dead true, so no dips and flat spots.

Conclusion, my 308 is booked in his next available slot, somewhere around February/March 2009!!! I'm now really looking forward to seeing the results.

Pics from today, interior, luggage area & engine bay masked off & front clip stripped.
As you can see, she's had 3 previous repaints on the front (I'll find out how much elswhere tomorrow).
No real horrors - only some damage to the nose (pictured), I've used a soft interface pad on the sander so any galvanising left under the paint gets minimal damage.

Few questions. Was a paint stripper used or just sanded down to bare metal? I also noticed that you left the paint on the lips bordering the front trunk and the light spaces. Will that be left and just roughened prior to primer/paint or be removed to bare metal as well? If it's to be left, why?

Thanks. This is going to be a fun thread to follow, thanks for sharing.

    Jeff
