After 3 years of owning my 308QV, I just now realize that there is a light under the handbrake lever. The bulb is of course no good since I got the car, and this is why I didn't know it has one until a friend showed me. The bulb reads Osram Italy 12V 3W and it's Green. Now, is this originally green and can I just get this at my local auto parts store or Radio Shack? Thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mike, Yes, it's green. I ordered a replacement bulb several years ago from Ferrari UK. I don't think they're available at your local auto parts store. Barry
Good news, Mike. Ricambi has them: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=217926 Barry
Mike, wait till you see how bright that handbrake lever light is! The reviewer in the Road & Track 308 Buyers Guide mentioned that he had to cover the lever with his hat. It's really not that bad, though. I think you'll appreciate having some extra lighting in the console area at night. Barry
my cars handbrake light was a clear one found it a real PITA to drive at night....... so out she go's
Those lamps are called FESTOON and are available in many diameter and length dimensions, so many in fact you will encounter difficulty getting what you want from AutoZone-Shucks. Getting the narrow diameter is particularly tough without special order. Length can be fudged a bit by bending the spring holder. There is also a festoon lamp in the glove lock-box (center rear console). I replaced my handbrake lamp only to decide it didn't help at all. If you don't already know what those levers do, trying to read them at night is too late. In the lock box, however, the light is definitely a plus.
It's rather like the dash lights, depends on ambient levels, but I was really startled when it came on in #22641... You want to keep original wattage or less, to baby the wiring circuit........green is the way to go, it'll match the dash that way..... Try a Light Bulbs Unlimited, or something if you cannot find them in the auto parts store.....as noted the double ended ASRAM is pretty common.....
Bubba eats a lot of carrots, Mike. It's really not terribly bright. Remember, when you're driving the lever is down, so it only illuminates the console. When you park and set the brake, some extra light is welcome. Barry
Barry, Why bother with activating the emergency brake - a big rock behind the tire is more effective! Actually first gear is a low enough gear that it will hold the car on a slope. Jeff
+1 the handbrake is about as much use as a ashtray on a motorbike ..............in the 5 years i've had my car never once have i used the h/brake 1st gr
I tried using the handbreak on the incline of our driveway. As the car started rolling realized that 1st gear was a far superior idea. Back to the light - it is useful for night lighting of the various heater and fan controls. Jeff
Hi all I've been after these for some time now, I ordered one from Eurospares and they sent one that fitted but it was clear glass!! Ricambi shipping costs for two of these to send to U.K. is $37.01, guess I will have to stay with the clear one!! Regards
Hi Philip. Buy the clear one and paint it green with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Gallery-Glass-Paints-PICK-YOUR-COLOR_W0QQitemZ160322586650QQihZ006QQcategoryZ11785QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Is cheap and easy.
Hello Fchatters. I've just already changed this festoon bulb. In fact I've discovered it thanks to this post. I've bought a white one and after I've painted it in green with a special bulb lacquer. Easy. Enjoy Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi mike. If you encounter problems finding the bulbs, I can send them to you. Not easy around here to find them, because they're very rare, but I got them! The price... almost 2 eur each one! Cheers
