Anyone here familiar with this one?
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-FERRARI-512-BBi-BOXER-ACCIDENT-DAMAGE-SALVAGE_W0QQitemZ380164940315QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item588398a21b&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

My bold highlighting - I was curious what that part meant. Was it already a crash repair?

Too bad that they slapped it with a California Salvage Certificate. Looks very repairable. Appears that even the front windscreen may have survived.

i think the BAR sticker thing is for gray market euro cars in Kalifornia. the BB was never sold in the USA, so they have to be DOTed to be here legally, California especially. or i may be wrong :)

The seller need to get off what ever narcotic they are on and come up with a realistic price closer to $20K for this totaled basket case.

I agree. $20K, plus the narcotics he's smoking might be a saleable deal...LOL!

The BAR sticker has nothing to do with accidents or repairs. As suggested by thecarreaper, any non-US car may get into the 49 states, but to get into California (to be registered by the DOT) the car requires a BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) sticker. This process requires a referee station (one in nothern and one in southern California), a 3 day test including crankcase emissions, exhaust, bumper height, crash bumpers, seat belts, safety glass, side door crash bars, etc. All of this was done for Federal EPA and DOT by a conversion shop on the east coast (Amerispec, for example), but California Smog was a bit more involved...hence the BAR sticker.

If you want to register a car in California, not previously manufactured for California, it must have a BAR Sticker. Hence, having one on a Boxer enhances value, as it opens up a large market of potential buyers. Absent the BAR, you may only sell the car in 49 states.

That will NOT be cheap to fix. If it weren't as rare as it is (relatively), I'd say
    it's a $20k parts car.

Just trough a front clip on that puppy and you have a Boxer again! What do front clips go for these days? Maybe $25K. So $20K for the car + $25K for the front clip + some welding & a few zip ties $5K = a salvage titled Boxer for $50K. Such a deal...

Ha! I'm pretty sure that this is the shop that ended up with Scott's (jsa330) 330 and tried to sell it for $75K.

I wonder how many high priced dead Ferraris they now own.

    Regards,

    Art S.

Based on their other eBay listings, looks like they are parting out a 330 as well..

Considering that this "premium condition, well-maintained" 84 bbi just sold for $85,5 at mecum this weekend, this salvaged monster in need of complete overhaul may be a tad optimistically priced.

These people are clueless http://porfor.com/. I tried to buy that 330 over a year ago and they were asking more for a crashed one then a good used. I sent them other listings and they didn't budge.

Hey, it has the original tool kit (please see photo # 10), so I think asking price is realistic! ;)

I know the car. The fix was going to be expensive. The insurance company made the right call.

Several of us were offered the car before the settlement was made and we all turned it down.

Maybe they'll sell the BAR sticker and the id tag-- that would be worth some money to someone!

"looks like it was well taken care of by the previous owner"

They are kiddin right? I'm sorry but I can see plenty of evidence to suggest that even before the accident the PO didn't give two hoots about the 'care' of the vehicle, it was a shed. I hope someone eventually gets it who cares because clearly the PO didn't.

Now that I have calmed down and my 18 year old son and I have regained our composure I will tell you the story of this car.

I bought it new from my friend Roberto Crepaldi in 1983 .His family owned what I beleive is the first Ferrari dealer located in Milano and Ospittellet Di'Cormano. I drove the car on EE plates all over Europe. I brought the car home in late 1984 and I believe I had Al Burtoni federalize it in 1985 . The car was with the second owner 5 years ago when he offered to sell it back to me .
I was shocked at the poor condition of the car . He had painted it a ," BMW red because it was nicer than the Ferrari red" Yes that is a direct quote... the car had a huge crease on the front hood passenger side. My son was not born when I had this car but had heard stories about it from his mother and grandfather who once got trapped in it not knowing where how to open the door from the inside.. hilarious story for another time. So my son and I go to buy the car and quickley rethink this when I see the condition. I also brought all the original documentation for the car , photos etc... I thought about giving them to the owner but decided against it . I did get a BAR sticker for it .

here it is in better days......
