What's the seller's F-Chat handle? Would love for him to chime in here. Anyone in the UK section know him?

A well looked after 355 engine is just as reliable as a 430 engine. :):)

More power from the 430 engine would be nice, but I reckon it would be easier to bolt twin turbos on the 355 engine and it would still make a lazy 100hp more than the stock 430 engine.:eek:

Is the seller on Ferrari Chat is he? :):)

If they aren't, they should be.:eek:

I would love to hear how/see pics of the 430 engine conversion also. :D:D

Well, we just installed a 360 F1 pump in my 355 last month (which works WAY faster than that old 355 pump!).

Guess I can just pop an F430 engine in if mine blows up!

    Awesome!

    A hybrid! LoL

I'll bet that spaceframe would save a pound or two-I like the work.

I was under the impression that the 430 motor was a (ahem) unusefully taller than the 355 motor--oil pan to top of air boxes.

A waste of time and money on a 355. The factory cradle is very light and superbly engineered. To fabricate a properly designed space frame from scratch might even weigh more..lol

Sound is not an issue..you can get it to sound right as seen in this video of a 360

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOQFKgvA9AU&NR=1&feature=fvwp

Problem is that to get this sound you must design your own exhaust so that you can dampen the sound decibel rating to pass local sound ordinances...and you would have to do some trick work to get it to pass emissions.

Not worth the time and money to put a 430 engine in a street car(don't forget the wheelbase/gearbox issues)...it would be your worst nightmare and drain your bank account big time.

For a race car????? What is the purpose....

Yo Sy. Why don't you give this guy a ring and see if you can snap some pics of the transplant?

Speaking of, hows the LM engine coming along?

we're assumig this was used in a 355 car. I think it was just a 355 engine used for a custom racecar. the frame attachment points are not even close to factory 355. this engine shown has 5.2 and not 2.7 Motronic. I believe 355 challenge cars all used 2.7. would be a good buy though, how much to ship it to the US?

There was someone up in this neck of the woods building a P4 replica using a 355 engine and box, it could be this guy, I've emailed the seller but had no response yet.

Have sent him an email as well.

We start work on the LM engine next week. We've cleared out most of the cars in the workshop so we can convcentrate on the 348. Plus, as my film equipment is there, we'll be filming everything we do.

Yes, this could have been for a custom race car as the space frame pictured is considerablly different than a 355CH cradle.

I also noticed that the engine was in a 5.2 configuration but the gearbox appears to be a CH atleast the clutch pumpkin.

Yes, the 2.7 engine was used for the CH cars, even the 97 batch.

The sound comes from the flat plane crank/firing order and is further enhanced by header design and high rpm......makes no difference if it has 4 or 5 valves.

If you radically modify the 430 exhaust you would pretty much achieve the same sound.

That's not good for the value of the car.
