I go to tracks quiet a lot lately (got the suit, hans etc) and get to drive a relatives GT3 RS 997 Mk2. I was recently in Imola and to be quiet frank... was hugely dissapointed with the track performance. Now for all the race car stuff in the car I expected much, MUCH more. I found the throttle in Sport mode to slow to react initially, but then just way too hyperactive. Worse are the weak brakes (steel as the CC ones one last 3-4 track days and are 25000 USD to replace, the dealer said customers are replacing theirs with steel also) and the terrible front end.

For a car with this much downforce, semi-slicks and low weight... it sure doesn't like to bite into turns. I found even a regular F430 on sport pirellis (not even corsas) to be much better as a track car.

I have a fair bit of experience with tracks/fast cars... so what am I not getting?

    Only got one for a 458 :)

Tried everything. Braking hard early, braking into the turn... it still understeers like hell.

The car will get new pads, slicks and race geometry for suspension... but still. A stock F430 was much nicer to pilot. After 2 days I got close to a second off the time of a pro driver at Fiorano. After 2 days in the Porsche... I was still sucking.

I guess no matter how you polish a turd... after 40 years it's just a VERY shiny turd... Yes, this is an anti-911 rant :)

Man, I just dont know what to say...

Nothing street car wise (and I mean nothing) handles like a GT3. Admittedly you are driving the heavier 997 variant (the 996 GT3 is a more precise weapon) but in reality you should be able to at least turn any GT3. As for the throttle it is electronic, and may be considered a touch slow to react Vs a cable.

On the handling though I believe that you have not yet gained the advantage of the extreme rear weight bias and how that is to be implemented. Perhaps you not in the throttle early enough on track out, perhaps your still braking into the corner (correctly for the Ferrari but disadvantageously for the 911). Maybe someone has the adjustable anti-sway bars set incorrectly for your style.

After tracking countless 911's and 430's I would say the Ferrari (while divine) is a luxury car in comparison with the track oriented GT3. So your post leaves me baffled.

    +911 :)

Either the car wasn't set up properly (something as simple as incorrect tire pressure can destroy a 911 on the track) or you don't have a handle on how to push a 911. I've tracked a 997 GT3 Mkii and without question, it was a better car in nearly every way than the 996 GT3 - which I raced for years. By all accounts and from better drivers than you or I, the RS is a significant step up from the GT3 on track.

I never tracked my 430 so I can't comment on it's capabilities at the limit, but its not nearly as precise as a 996 or 997 GT3. It's more likely a case of pilot error than an over-hyped car.

as others have said: learn to drive ;) :D

911s are a different animal entirely, even to a 430, and require a unique driving style. but once mastered they are awesome on the street or track.

I also agree with the setup recommendations, starting with tire pressures and going up to bars, alignment, etc. small changes can yield big results.

Don't feed the troll. His post is pure BS. I question whether he even has his driver's license yet.

Facial hair? Don't worry. One day you will notice your voice starting to change, you will notice hair in places where you didn't have it before. Before long your shoulders will become broader as you grow in height.

It is coming some day, don't get impatient.

Sounds like he's suffering from bizzarro-world off throttle snap understeer? LOL

A "turd" hmmm... A car with such long history of racing success. The point is this and listen well, you aren't a Porsche driver so go get some lessons because the guys at the pits are laughing.
