How does this happen? Rough? I'd call it done. There are so many things missing on that car I would venture to say it's approaching "parts car" territory.

Just like BigTex said, some cars die so others can live. It just makes the others all the more rare.

I actually think that it looks pretty good. For $8500 a real DIY owner can have a nice car and project all in one go. Sure economically it does not make perfect sense but the car is fairly complete and does not seem to be suffering from terrible rust either. A show car it won't be but it is cheap enough to be fun for someone with the right mindset.

It may depend on just how much badness is hidden behind the observation that the car ran rough AFTER the busted [sic] timing belt was replaced, and then sat for six years. But yes, I'd have found it hard to resist if the car had been closer to me...

Rough, approaching parts car , doesn't look that bad....I would love to see the definition from some of you what a dead car looks like and a pristine car.

Hakim optical has a special on glasses for some of you.

For $ 8,500, this car is overpriced.

The world looks different to those of us who pick up a wrench from time to time. This is not a stab but rather it can be appreciated that the car looks pretty complete and could be a fun way for someone to tinker with a Ferrari. No it is not the basis for a concours restoration but can be a good foundation for a project.

Let's do a little math shall we :

8k for the car, plus some taxes. It broke a belt and does not run....lets call that 10k ... As you will need some oil in the engine and antifreeze I figure. Lets be super fair, and figure it might shift, and the oil is fine in the diff/tranny...and the brakes actually work when you press the pedal, and you won't seize a calibar in the process ...and I will even assume, this is straight as an arrow and won't need a shock or an alignment or, rotors, or pads....all big IF !! It will for sure need 4 tires, that's another 1k ...so we are now at 20k ..... Lets assume you can find a few junk yard parts, like a steering wheel, a little air fresher, with free breeze to take the smell of mold out....a few bucks for some fake car seats...some odds and ends to maybe make the heating/ac t work somehow ...or at least have the power window switch work before the window falls off the track ...lets budget 1k for all that ...we are 21 ....lets go to Maaco and paint it for another $1,000 ....lets hope the wipers and lights work for certification lists call that another $500 and we are at $22,500 at the very very best !

We have made a ton of assumptions that other things were fine....what happens if we are not ? Too much risk getting into 30 for this car , very easily.

How about you save the 8k and buy a Honda .... Because this car at 8 ...is over priced. And needs to go to body shop for 3k, where someone can use the panels , and other pieces.

Sorry rob , but this car is beyond a DIY .... Someone taking on this project , should be an expert to understand the risks, not a DIY that has no idea the pit and heartache this will become.

I guess I was being kind. Actually, I'm not even sure this is a parts car. So many parts are missing and the parts that are remaining are all beat up.

Yeah, stick a fork in this sucker, it's done.

I never said it would make straight economical sense but I have known a lot of people have a ton of fun getting into much worse projects than this. From my perspective this car is not fit for the scrap heap just yet.

Another cool project would be using it as a starting point to make a replica Pontiac Fiero out of it. Just imagine Pontiac emblems on every surface you can fit one on just like all other Ferrari replicas :D

When I look at that add the first thing I notice is that every picture is in perfect focus except the one showing the serial number. Doesn't that ever make you guys wonder?

Well, we all know these types of Ferrari in general don't make any economical sense. But being short , is much better than being upside down, or buried in a car like this one ( if you can still call it a car)

Here are cars on the adds section that yeild a much better return for a DIY wanting to get into the hobby...or Ferrari passion.

As for a fiero .... I think I would rather buy a yearly bus/transit pass , than being seen in a fiero :D
