*note the 16M has S line exhaust, CGT and AM V12VS are stock Exhaust: Aston Martin V12 Vantage S vs Ferrari 16M Scuderia vs Porsche Carrera GT - YouTube
V10. Just like your previous M5 V10. V10 > V8 > V12 Although the 599 GTO V12 is amazing. Not a fan of the low rumbly sound.
Interesting Steve...good point, I don't think I've ever heard a bad V10. They all sound fantastic. Gallardos sound amazing as well. I wonder why there aren't more V10 platforms compared to V8's and V12's. Sent from my 16M
The CGT does sound good. Want to hear a bad V10? Try a Dodge Viper. My neighbour had one with a loud exhaust, it was just plain awful. All the neighbours agreed. And yes a drive by would be much better.
I have a 97 Viper with high flow cats and Corsas, and below 3000 it still sounds like a UPS truck with blown mufflers..... After 3000 it gets decent, but nothing like a Lambo, pretty disappointing. Now the rumble and vibration, it sets off any alarm it goes by and you feel the car before you hear it. Sound is the only disappointing part about the car. Surprisingly, and I am not an attention whore, the Viper gets way more attention than my red 360.
Engine sound is more than a function of how many cylinders an engine has. Hard to beat the sound of an F50, a detuned race engine, or a 599 GTO, both 65 degree V12s. Big difference in sound between flat plane crank V8s like that 16M and the 90 degree, cross plane cranks like that in most Maseratis, which sound very good. In general, most highly tuned, DOHC, 4 or 5 valve, naturally aspirated V or flattened V engines sound pretty good with the right exhaust. Exhaust design makes a big difference in sound, too. Different exhausts on the same model Ferrari or other exotic can vary from low pitched and relatively gutteral to high pitched screamers. Personally, I like the V12 sound the best, for some reason.
And firing order in a pushrod American V8, notice how a stock Mustang sounds so much better, to most, than a stock Vette. Firing order.
Bert- There have been different firing orders on Corvette engines over the years, and that is the first time I have heard somebody liked Mustang exhausts better than Corvette exhausts. Not me.
