Has anyone seen this movie...? i just watched it the other night and it was awesome... Definitely worth renting... i also rented and watched Ray last night... Another great movie... Two hours and 33 minutes, but well worth it... i strongly recommend it...
Both Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko were outstanding, highly underrated in my opinion. I didn't likethe message of the ending in butterfly effect, it left me severely shaken and not at all comfortable, much moreso than any 'scary' movie ever. However, the quality of the whole of the movie itself was outstanding, I think I LIKE it because I didn't like it
I really, really wanted to like this movie. The acting in the first 10 minutes is SO horrible, it was laughable. It's pretty bad when you are excited for Ashton Kutcher to come on the screen so he can add some acting "credibility" to the film. Never got past minute 12 on the movie, and I OWN it.
OK, that's that. How 'bout this: My teen age daughters actually bought a movie, which they all agree is the best movie ever made in the history of the, you know, like, world, and they agree I shoud watch it because its, like, the funniest movie, you know, ever, and I would like it... It Napoloen Dynamite. Are they farking with the old man?
That was LAST year's Sundance Festival 'find', to mass market. WAIT 'till you see what THIS YEAR's is.....................
Napolean Dynamite is funny in a silly and quirky way. And if you were an uber-geek in school, it may strike some familiar chords. It is one of those movies where you appreciate it more afterwards, talking about it with your friends, then you did when you watched the movie. Kind of like Monty Python movies in that regard. People get no end of entertainment quoting "The Holy Grail". It is not pretentious and it is more clever/honest than most mass-marketed comedy these days. See it. "Girls like guys with skills. Bow-hunting skills, nun-chuk (sp?) skills,, computer skills..." and of course... "Vote for Pedro!"
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/napoleondynamite.html As a geek, that movie really struck a cord with me. IDIOT! -Chris
The Butterfly Effect was very cool IMO. I've only seen the usual ending, but I've been told there is an alternate ending where he kills himself as a foetus (sp?). I still wish the movie was a few minutes shorter, and it stopped where he is in the hospital and the doc saying "there have never been journals, it's all your imagination".
I didnt like Butterfly effect to much, but Napolean Dynamite is one of the greatest movies ever. SOOOOOOOO funny
It's really kick-ass... Ashton Kutcher is a kid who has these black outs and can't remember what happens during those black outs... He grows up and is in college when he learns that he can go back in time and change some of the really screwed up things in his past... But everytime he changes something, something else gets really screwed up later on... So he keeps going back trying to fix things and everytime, something else gets screwed up... i really liked it because of how well thought out it was... There are a few small things in that happen in the first part of the movie that sort of double back and play into the second part of the movie... i thought it was great... Definitely a cut above a bunch of the other stuff that's been coming out, recently... Because of the great review in this thread, i just rented Napolean Dynamite... i'll report back when i watch it... i also rented Agent Cody Banks - just because there's a 246 GTS in it... i don't know if it's real or not, but i have to watch it... Thirdly, i rented Die Another Day because, from the preview, it looked like there was a 355 in it... Gotta see it...
Last night, i watched Bulletproof Monk - in my opinion, just wait for it to come on cable... i've also got Man On Fire, with Denzel Washington, which is the movie i plan on watching tonight... Anyone seen it...? It's 146 minutes long...
I am kinda an old guy. I think I need a good night's sleep before a "kick ass" movie. Thanks for the summary! BTW this reminded me of some even older friends who found "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to be "disturbing". At least I'm not THAT old!
I agree Carbon, the butterfly effect was an awesome movie! Did you check out the alternate endings??? I remember one was ok. RE: Napolean Dynamite...HECK YES! That movie is frickin' sweet, my friends and I still quote it at school But ya, great movie if you like to just kick back and not have to think about anything, because there is like NO plot in this movie. It's how stupid it is that makes it funny.
If you liked Butterfly Effect, there is a movie with similar suspense, but I thought it was better. Its a few years older, but a deifnate top rated film. Check out "The Usual Suspects".
se7en definitely, i have serious doubts it will be eclipsed by anything more beautifully crafted. usual suspects, i really liked it the first couple times i saw it, after that i started to notice just how contrived it all was. still a good movie, but don't watch it more than twice. quite liked butterfly effect, think i need to watch it again as i sort of ferget most of it. another one really worth checking out along the lines of broken plots is Memento, very entertaining.
I hated Napoleon Dynamite. Some of my favorite movies are: Boiler Room Se7en The Count Of Monte Cristo The Devil's Advocate Collateral Minority Report Heat Ronin
My wife and I have been renting a lot of movies during the dog days of winter. Lots of so-so stuff out there. We just watched "The Village", and I've come to the conclusion that M. Knight Shyamalan (?) is good at coming up with story ideas, but has a hard time ending them. Lots of potential that didn't deliver.
