I recall a story in the 1970s about a woman, I think in California, who was interred sitting in her Ferrari - Lusso, maybe.
The car and occupant were encased in a concrete vault specially designed to resist attempts at opening in case the car became a collectors item.

Anyone recall this, or was it just a tale?

The car is a cemetary queen; low miles but not serviced.

I heard this story too but have no details on it. I do believe it was a Lusso. It may be just an urban myth though.

I remember the news stories about this event--it was no urban legend. I was thinking about it the other day now that I have a Ferrari and was wondering what model she owned.

A quick google search came up with the following:

"Millionaire oil heiress Sandra Ilene West was buried 19 years ago in her lace negligee behind the wheel of her powder-blue 1964 Ferrari in a funeral that included a yellow crane to lift the crate containing her and her car and lower it nine fee into the ground, two cement trucks, a construction crew and coast-to-coast headlines. She stipulated the burial arrangements, down to having the car seat "set in a comfortable position," refusing to pass on a single cent of her inheritance unless her instructions were followed to the letter." Her grave is marked by a plain slab in the Alamo Masonic Lodge Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. (Source: Rust, Carol. "Buried in Texas." Texas August 4, 1996.)"

I live near San Antonio so it probably made the news hear more.

I was living in California at the time of this, it made all the papers, no myth. They actually dug a pit to put her and the car in. From what I remember, it was a red Lusso. I believe the cemetary is the one off hwy. 15, past San Bernadino, heading east. I wonder if she had the last service done on the car?

In here I've seen on TV a guy that was builting a coffin in the shape of a Mercedes CLK so he can be buried in it....
It's not a real one though.... But it's crazy enough to me...
Oh! The guy drives a CLk in real LIVE life too! :)

I stand corrected, must have had a senior moment with the recall of color and location.

    Those crazy Texan Ferrari owners!

Next time I'm in the Alamo City I'll drop over some flowers and a bottle of AGIP 10-50W.

I had the Boy Scouts there on a Mission tour. What a side trip THAT would have been!

Imagine a fireside ghost story:....... "and they say at night when the wind blows, you can hear a V12 wailing and the rustle of red lace brushing her thighs as she stomps the throttle."

If only Lord Brockett had been in the one HE buried!

A 1964 250GT would in all likelihood be a Lusso.

Who can come up with the serial number first? We should have a contest.

Agreed!! 64 GTO 5575 used to be here in Colorado Springs- sometimes the owner would drive it on the street. What a sound!!

    I don't know, try a Google.

He basically reported some cars he owned as stolen, to collect insurance.

Then paid some goons to smash 'em down and bury them on his English estate. They popped him and now he lives in the Gray Bar Motel. We are talking BIG money so they slammed him hard.

I think the cars have been recovered and were valuable enough to merit restoration/rebody. Anyone in UK?

If Stephen King new about this, the movie "Christine" would've had a much larger fan-base... the 68 Plymouth didnt strick much of a nerve....

hmmmmm... i think its about time for a remake... it would take years to produce however... we would have to WHICH F-car to use...
