2nd time this happened.Parked the car in the garage in 1st gear.Went to start it up will not go into neutral therefore will not start.
Happened a mo ago and just by rocking the car it unlocked the vacuum.
This time no go and of course it's Sun and the sun is out here in the NW!!
The service mgr told me last time to park it in N. However seems counter-intuitive and not my habit after 55 yrs of driving.
Anybody else have this problem and if so is there any other trick other than flat bedding to dealer?

Don't know why, but the 360 F1 did this often and sometimes it also helped to push the brake pedal hard, really hard to the bottom (the enigne and servo isn't runnig so press hard)

    Hope this helps

    Martin,

Try not to shut-off/stop the car in 1st gear when shutting down. I was told by FNA that unless the car needs to be prevented from rolling down a hill, shut down in neutral..I do and so far never had a problem with the car being stuck in gear. Obviously apply the brake.

After applying this theory, so far never had the problem with the car staying in gear when attempting to grab neutral before a start.

and when parking on a hill...go to neutral..apply the parking brake (release brake pedal so the brake will grab) and then pull lever to engage first gear and THEN shut down. This would prevent vehicle weight on the transmision..therefore easy to put into neutral before a re-start.

I had a similar problem with my old 360. The brake light switch also controlled the shift at startup. The switch was faulty, and the FofSF guy came to tow it, could not move the car, another mechanic came with the laptop, and before he hooked it up, tried stomping on the brake; it worked. They replaced the brake light switch as when they did hook it up to the computer, it showed that it the brake lights had been intermittent.

This method also worked on my 360 when my car would not go into reverse. I was told to push hard on the brake and presto I had reverse.

    You are very welcome !

ps. Pushing the brake really hard also works if the F1 dosen't want to shift to 1st gear from Neutral if your standing in a green light blocking the cars behind you.......(that was kind of a embarrasing)

i had the same problem standing at the light-told the dealer about it and he said leave in in first-will not hurt the clutch because it acts like it is in neutral when standing still-van

The brake lights can work perfectly and still have the problem. The switch has 2 sets of contacts in it, one is for lights only and one is for F1 input only. Don't just ignore problems if you have them. They usually don't get better all by themselves. Most times when someone gets stranded it was not a first occurence.
