I think the Ford GT's HP. is at least 550 at the RW. My MK-IV with 550 HP at crank (Ford 67 dyno) and weighing 2350 lbs. went 0-100 in 8 seconds with Le Mans gearing 2:50 / 1 (top speed 223) so if the Ford GT with 1000 lbs more but lower gearing went 0-100 in just under 8 sec it would need at least 550 RWHP. I also agree with you that the C&D Ford GT wasn't a ringer and that the C&D F430 #'s if correct are very impressive.

These are the autocar stats for the Enzo and Porsche GT1.

    1.8s 3.5s 6.6s 11.1s/138mph 13.1s n/a Ferrari Enzo

    2.0s 3.8s 7.2s 11.6s/134mph 16.1s 40.9m Posche 911 GT1

As for the the 430s braking, the caterham brakes from 70-0 in 135 feet. I don't 147 is so bad. The Enzo did that in around 150 and cars like the Zonda are around 170ft.

Andrew - like you I never liked the McLaren, mainly because everyone else did. But you should read the book, and learn the history of the car. It *really* is the king in so many ways the Enzo never will be.

BTW, for a car that is almost 10 years older, that's pretty phenomenal that Ferrari is just barely catching up in performance, and still doesn't have half the car. Look at the design elements in the McLaren - the engineering brilliance that went into the car is staggering. When you can daily drive an Enzo and carry more thna one person in comfort with any degree of practicality, let me know. :D

Road&Tracks, GT1 0-60 in 3.4 and the 1/4 mile in 10.9 sec and the MercedezBenz CLK-GTR was 3.4 sec 0-60 and the 1/4mile in 9.4 sec, but anyway the fastest there is in acceleration and top speed is the Dauer Porsche 962.

Those two were full on race cars though, on race slicks. The Dauer promises a new level of performance, but it has yet to be independently tested.

The 430 will be available with three pedals, although it may take a little while, I have heard the first batch of cars will be all F1. I have never seen anything from Ferrari to indicate they will not build a 3-pedal car at all. I agree with your styling analysis, the 360 is the purer design.

great point, doctor.......i am also on the 430 list and current have a 360spider.....i may go off the list because i am told it will be LONG TIME before any 6speeds are available....i just dont get it, the 6speed in the 355 and 360s are soooo much FUN to drive...i love ferraris , and many sports cars, because they are fun to drive....the extra 85hp would be nice but i dont have the skills to properly take advantage of them////

Dauer Porsche was tested and it was a 0-60 in 2.7 sec. and top speed of 251mph, I will have to look up the rest of the stats. The GT1 was the street version and I think the MB was also the street version, I got the times from R&T.

There's a bit of difference between a Dauer 962 and a GT1 but don't let the facts get in the way of your mag racing. Having driven a 962 I can tell you IMO it wouldn't make much of a street car unlike the McLaren F1 which does.

There is a version of the McLaren F1 that is fully US street legal. That is not true of the Dauer 962 or the GT1 nor could there be but don't let that stop you.

    Interesting thread.

Any idea what the 50-150 times of a
f40, f50, enzo and a f430 are, beacuse for fast driving or even playing on a long track this is a much better measure.

I have always heard that the f40 is hard to beat, especially as the hp can pretty easily and reliably be turned up to 650.

But do you have the actual articles? I used to have the hardcopy of the articles, the actual issues. In the case of the CLK-GTR, it was the race version of the car "tested" by Steve Millen with the Hockenheim (short track) gearing. The numbers were not independently verified by R&T, they were taken from Persson Motorsports (the team that was campaigning that particular CLK-GTR during the FIA GT season). Just look at the quarter mile time and see if it doesn't seem the least bit strange to you:
    0-60: 3.4
    1/4 mile: 9.4 @ 137 mph?

137 mph is suspiciously low for a 9.4 second quarter mile. When R&T tested that Benetton-BMW Formula 1 car, it also turned the quarter mile in 9.4 seconds. But look at the other figures:
    0-60: 3.0
    1/4 mile: 9.4 @ 169 mph

That's a 900+ bhp, 1407-lb (with fuel & driver) car with 410mm wide rear racing slicks. The 600-hp, 3400-lb CLK-GTR street car on street tires matches its 1/4 mile time with a 32 mph slower trap speed, even though it was slower to 60 mph by nearly half a second? I don't buy it.

Take a look under the heading "Tests: Track"
    http://www.roadandtrack.com/pdf/1998_rt_index.pdf

Regarding the Dauer...who (outside of Dauer) acheived those numbers? Was that on the production car, or the prototype(which has been several years in development)? Considering those figures have been around for several years (and the car was only finally put into production within the past 1-2 years), I'm inclined to think it was the former.

I believe Dauer and GT1 both had street legal versions.

That said, I agree, the mag racing is silly. When you get sub-4 sec 0-60, you're a dman fast car. Just buy and drive what you like best. Bickering over the figures is pointless. Get behind the wheel and see which gives you the biggest smile. I personally think having Dauer rip apart a 962 and adding, inter alia, gaudy leather interiors is sacrilege. Anyway...

If you're hoping not to hear "Objection. Sustained" you're going to have to learn to read every word.

"There is a version of the McLaren F1 that is fully US street legal. That is not true of the Dauer 962 or the GT1 nor could there be but don't let that stop you."

Germany is not, so far as I know, the US.

Dauer had built several street machines out of the 962 Porsche. The sultan of Brunei loved his first one so much that he is got now two more of them. Also Porsche does have a street version of the GT1 and several are in the USA. One thing that I dont get is the comment "oh well it isn't U.S. street legal", well the whole world is not the USA. What then if a car is not U.S. street legal then it doesn't count at all? Remember not all Ferrari chatters are of U.S.A. nationality and not even all americans in FerrariChat are living in U.S. soil, but their words and comments do count so by all means then any car in existance is fair game to count in the posts.

There are street versions of the GT1 and other cars, but they aren't as nearly as quick as the racecars.

Perhaps Ferrari gave these magazines a "ringer" F430. The acceleration times are very close to those published by Car and Driver. They were obtained on the same track and were confirmed with a radar gun. Perhaps the F430 will be THAT fast. Hmm..... I can't wait to find out.

I think the times are accurate for THAT track on THAT day (let's not forget the test rack they used goes downhill the second half) but will not be representative of results on the usual tracks the mags use. I'm betting 3.9 to 60, 9.1 to 100.

That's exactly where the computer software I use to predict future model performance has it when I punch in all the data, but it has 100MPH in 8.7 seconds, which would make the 430 0.1 to 0.3 seconds faster than a Gallardo to the same mark.

Interestingly, it also has a quarter mile of 12.0 @ 120MPH, which sounds much more accurate than these Fiorano-ringer-times that the major American mags are touting for the 430.
