Came across this photoset today and knew that it would be enjoyed by this group. I did a search and don't believe they've been posted before. Apologies if this is in fact 'old news',. but better to post something twice than not at all. :)

It should be especially interesting to this crowd, as quoting one individual from the last thread on this car that I was able to find:

"Sorry but the body is completely wrong. Completely different from what it was originally... "

Seems from the period photos that the errors pointed out there have now been corrected - at least to this untrained eye. Quite a beautiful result and 251 images showing the 'during' and 'after' restoration are here:

The whole nose section still looks way too low, which makes the car a lot less attractive, IMHO.

Wonder if this car will be offered for sale again now that it is 'fixed(?)'? I still think it is a beautiful car. Not big on the switch to white, though (car should be blue, I think...Marcel?).

I replaced the link in original post with a virus-free version and cleaned up the thread to keep the discussion on-topic.

Judging by the "before" pics (the smaller ones were posted by Gerald Roush in an earlier post - stated as being from Spring '86), the droop nose was an in-period modification (likely after a racing crash), not when the car was reconstructed after the Detroit riot damage. Note the patina on the body panels -- only the upper doors appear to be new additions...

What a stunning car. I really love these early Ferrari coupes.

I do not understand though what buurman refers to with this quote: Those pre TDF models dont have "baquettes" under the bodywork left and right

What the heck is a baquette?

Also what the heck happened to this car during the Detroit riots?

Pete ,this has nothing to do with a long loaf of bread.

See pic below the blue car has a silver alu strip under the bluebody.
the silver TDF dont , thats correct.
This strip schould probebly "hide" the exhaust view.
Dutchman are highly influenzed by the France

Photo on the right shows 0507 GT taken at The Breakers in Palm Beach/FL during the Cavallino Concours 21st January 2006. 0507 GT is a totally different, and much later car than 0383 GT.

Mr Massini, you quotation here is not very helpfull.
0383GT was originally build WITHOUT these strips ,like 0507GT thats the question.

It appears that, in connection with the 1980s restoration, 0383GT got an oval grill with integral fog lights like that on 0507GT, which was corrected in the most recent restoration.

My father Glen Kalil bought and restored this car in the mid 80s. The car had been sitting for many years after being burned in the Detroit Riots, as most are aware of. The tops of the doors and roof were melted in this fire, and someone made an effort to reskin the doors, as can be seen in the pictures. The nose was repaired after a racing incident as well, however, it was mostly cosmetic, contrary to what I have read.

The nose was crushed in slightly from "hangar rash".

When my father got the car to Florida, he took it to Ray Loach to have the nose hammered straight, and a few dents to be removed from the body. The first picture shown was taken by my father at Rays yard in Stuart, Florida, and given to Gerald Roush to show him the progress.

Soon after this, it was decided to send the car to Italy to have the body and interior properly restored. I will post pics, and clear up a little history as well.

Is this the same Terry Myr who was in Port Huron? I remember when I lived in Detroit of hearing of people who took their cars to him because he was the only guy that could fix Ferraris (this I heard in the early '70s) How many Ferraris were lost? Was he insured?Going back to the Detroit riots I was there for the one that occured after MLK died, but can't remember the year of the second detroit riot. Imoved to Calif. in'69 (though I was in Calif. for the '65 Watts riots). I am surprised in the Detroit riot any Ferraris were down below 8 mile Road, most of them being in the far NW suburbs or Grosse Pointe. Did other exotics get burned in the same riot-caused fire? How did the burned cars get sold, in one big auction? What did 0383GT sell for? This seems to have been a bad luck car, two fires on the same car, both externally caused...
