Buying my first Ferrari, to make it more palatable to my family, I want to buy something with 4 seats in order to share the experience as opposed to me speeding around on weekends by myself in a 430 while my wife babysits our children's and wonders why I haven't come home yet.

In all the research I've done (mostly dealers and mechanics) they seem to be trying to steer me away from this car into a California or something of the like.

I don't have enough in the budget to get into a decent FF, but could easily deal with maintenance and even one or two medium - large repairs.

If you had the chance, would you buy your '05-'06 612 again or not? I just love the look and two extra seats in the back.

    Thanks in advance!

I've only had mine for 3 months but a definite yes. I had a 355 and a 328 prior and it always came down to either bringing my daughter or my wife to drives and events. Also for the longer drives, the smaller cars either couldn't carry the luggage or became rather cramped after a couple of hours.

The 612 seemed to be the best option for my needs. Room for 4, comfortable ride and the power and speed of a V12 Ferrari. So I sold the 328 (kept the 355 for those canyon drives) and went for the 612.

When my daughter gets older and no longer wants to ride with us I may trade out for a 599 or F12 but for now the 612 fills the needs.

Any major problems that you've found in the '05-'06 612's to be consistent in your cars (and others you know?)

I'm in the early stages of shopping for 612 after five years with a 456M, which I sold for a 360 stick (I also have a 308 GTSi). They are amazing cars and the last of an era. I can afford an FF, but I prefer a 612 at this point. And I'm divorced with no kids! The rear seats are good for more than kids; I made a spare tire kit for my 456M which fit back there, and I put my guitars back there to keep them in a climate controlled environment (The 360 has just enough room behind the seats for one guitar).

Good luck in your search. There are a LOT of 612's out there, and it's a buyer's market, except for the manuals.

I would try for a 2008 0n - hard to find but great improvements over the early 612s

I love my 612 due to the extra room. We don't have kids but I prefer the extra room. My California doesn't have any room in the back as I'm 6ft but it does remind me of my previous 550 Maranello. My wife at 4'11" has plenty of room for her purse and shopping in either car.....

Being able to use it with the family makes a huge difference. I also have a 430, and I love driving it, but it tends to only get used for A to A trips. We actually go places in the 612 which is more satisfying and it gets used a lot more as a result. These cars have real character and that makes for a very enjoyable ownership experience.

No major problems. Battery, tyres, tpms sensors, all normal wear and tear. There is one ongoing issue, an intermittent rattle which appears around 60 mph/100 kph, under the dash somewhere but can't track it down. Haven't heard of it happening in other cars though.
Be sure to use a battery tender when not driving it. Lots of odd things happen if the voltage drops.
    Good luck.

I have had my 612 for 2 years and still love it. I highly recommend it.

Also a 612 is not all that common and so virtually every time I take it out someone makes a favorable comment. It is nice to drive something that doesn’t look like every other car out there.

Get a PPI done by a reputable guy, and then go for it!

Once I pulled up to the bag drop at a country club. The attendant came over to me and said, "I know you don't have a set of clubs in the trunk".

I replied, "You're right, I have TWO sets of clubs in there!"

Obviously they were carry bags, but the point is you can get a lot of stuff in these cars. It's just my wife and I, but when we make long term trips to Florida and Canada, she packs like we're gone for a year!

    I love my 612:

    - 12 cylinders... and fair mix of confort and sports when you want it (not a car for track)
    - most roomy 4seater 2 door sports car I know (I don't like station wagon looks)
    - large trunk, especially once you remove the mid level of the trunk / I fit 3 cabin size luggage + bags
    - relatively cost efficient / 2004 here means no luxury tax and lower insurance rates / cheap buying prices / 5 years interval for engine belt / clutch wears slowly if you don't do 0-60 tests / ceramic brakes = no brake costs
    - very elegant, I love the design

I would buy another one anytime - a huge step from my numerous porsches

Yes, had my for 4 years with young kids and we all loved it. Best bit was my 6 year son would say 'Daddy open the window and change gear so I can hear the engine'. Priceless.
