Ferrari 275 P #0812 - Back on Track Following more than a decade of restoration, a few legal troubles and a lot of work the team of Marco Baldi of Protauto in Sorbara (Modena) presented 0812 on Tuesday, 23rd September 2008, at Villa Cavazza in Solara di Bomporto. Also present was Luciano Rizzoli of Bologna and Fiorenzo Fantuzzi of Modena. With race number 22 this car is now in the 1964 Le Mans configuration (Giancarlo Baghetti and Umberto Maglioli DNF due to a crash). This fantastic racing Ferrari is soon going to be featured in "Octane" and other magazines. Luigi Chinetti Jr., who commissioned the restoration (together with sister car 0814, not finished yet) has recently sold 0812 to a new owner in California. SAIMA, the logistics company also used by Ferrari SpA, transported 0812 yesterday, Wednesday, 24th September 2008, from Italy to the United States. Pictures of the 1963 Le Mans fire of 0812 can be found in the thread "More Old Photos". hi all, in the 250P thread I asked: "Which car did they use to make the buck/mould? I have seen a SWB from Protauto and it was not even close to the original! To replicate a 250P you need or original bucks (gone I think) or use Wang's or Bardinon's, even then look close to detailing because almost all P's are different in detail. You need many old photos and computer/autocad etc for sizes/measurements. Would be good to see both cars back in near future (racing!!) Tom" Did protauto used Fantuzzi's old buck? If not you need a car to make one! Piper's two P's 0824 cars are different in body too.
0810 is NOT right anyway and has an almost entirely new body. 0824: Those were reconstructed by Allegretti. And yes, Fiorenzo Fantuzzi was personally involved in the restoration of 0812. Besides "Octane" magazine 0812 will also soon be featured in "Ruote Classiche" (Italy). Marcel Massini
Nice to see another resurrected P car. But like many other restored Ferraris, the front shape is not correct.
+1 But it is very hard to reconstruct the body to exact specs if you do not have an original (unrestored, almost impossible) car. Though by means of modern techniques, old photos scanning, 3D software, Autocad etc one can make it quite right. Those cars were at time all different in detail (they're handmade!) But many cars, not only this 250P (e.g. many 250 GTO's, LM's and SWB's !), could have been a little better imho. I like it when a car is as original as possible to the smallest detail. All in my opinion. Tom
There s no pix about the reconstruction of the car inside the garage of Mr Fantuzzi? It must to be very interresting to see him working, his handle made is reconized over the world, traditional with many original documentations are normaly used for the reconstruction. Passionating work too! i like to see how it s hard to find the philosophie for rebuidt a car, blow of hammer and the eye of expert for deduce that everything is ok. In vintage section we don t have any thread concerning the handle made of these mans, i mean personal pictures and during a process for rebuilt cars... everything is splited in many different threads
Christian, Fantuzzi no longer exists! Car was restored @ Protauto (Marco Baldi) Sunday I spoke with David Piper; there are not many coachbuilders in Italy anymore who have the old skills of classic coachbuilding (fathers have or had it, but the son's don't)
One of the masters at work, inside Fantuzzi's shop in Modena. All hand made. Photo is from 1988. Image Unavailable, Please Login
This photo does NOT show Fantuzzi himself but rather Franco Ferrari, a former postman who became a panelbeater at Fantuzzi's and later opened up his own Carrozzeria. Franco Ferrari's coachbuilding still exists today. Marcel Massini

She looks great. Still need marker lights, Ferrari Shield, bug deflector, mirror and a longer windshield wiper arm. The body looks almost perfect. Maybe some very very slight differences from the Lemans 1964 race photos. Great job!! TT/SD
Not at all. Albert Uderzo had 0828 (365 P). And the brief moment was from 1977 to 1981. Marcel Massini
The nose looks a little bit too blunt to me. The 250 / 275 P is, next to the 312, my favorite P-Ferrari. Congrats to the new owner.
Same car on an earlier occasion. I hope we see the car at vinatge events? David Image Unavailable, Please Login
