Jim ! I love your red converse !
More footage of #0850 on YouTube - this time at the Goodwood Festival (of Rain and Mud) in 1997. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOMewNQK8QY Footage itself obviously 'borrowed' from the Duke video: Ferrari Champion Sports Racers (part of 50th Anniversary set). The (L.H.D.) #23 'P4' filmed in Symbolic Motors' showroom, that follows immediately afterwards is the ex-Dennis Machul Norwood P4 replica, chassis #003, now owned by Jean-Pierre Slavic of Switzerland. See photos in this post: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135705312&postcount=92 by Marcel Massini. Oh .... and after that there's a few seconds of 412P #0854 splashing (very rapidly) through Goodwood's puddles.
I thought I'd add a little footnote to my post #154 of this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137287816&postcount=154 Unknown large scale model of #0850 You were dead right, Gary ! I'd lost touch with Wim for a couple of years, and he'd also changed his email address. I wrote to him this week. He replied yesterday: I think Wim's model looks even better - especially for 'only' being 1:24 scale, eh ? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
William did a great job on that model. With the Joker transkits the joke is on you. The 1/24 Fujimi P4 kit is very nice. Now you can get the fully detailed Model Factory Hiro 412 kit with correct heads. TT/SD
The hiro is very good, but I like mine more!!!!(lol) 1:12 came originally from Natan! (allthough its another chassis) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ultimodels made a superb 1/12th P4 kit.Its the best curbside P4 I have seen on the market. The best curbside P3 is by Minidelta in 1/12th. The best full detail with everything showing is from Model Factory Hiro in 1/24 scale. Your P4 looks great!! TT/SD
couldn't agree more on the minidelta P3 I have one!!!! and my other P4 Image Unavailable, Please Login
My P4's are both litle treasures. The last one is a 1:14 Carlo Brianza, and the 1:12 was the subject of a thread right here. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147280 Am a kind of addict for these large scale models, besides these I am going to build the MGmodelplus 1:12 P4 in the spring.
Back in the early 70's Dino Martin decided he wanted a Ferrari P4 to drive on the street. There were no P4's available at that time but R. Lee Brown instead found a P3 that Jacques Swaters had available. The motor was rebuilt and then the P3 was shipped to LA. During unloading of the car a fork lift was used that destroyed the aluminum body back to the windshield. The car was taken to Precision Auto Body were work began on making the P3 streetable. 90% of the body was remade with some liberties taken with the original shape. Getting that V12 engine to run cool was a key in many decisions taken on the body design. When finished the car at 1725 pounds was 100 pounds lighter than when they had started. When final details like mufflers and acceptable headlight bulbs had been added the car was registered for street use. California black plate 'XRK 219' was legal for LaCienega or any other street now. Can any of the experts fill in the details on the more recent history of this 412P chassis 0850?
0850 was never a P3. it was one of the two 412P built in 1967 and raced by Ecurie Francorchamps. the 1966 P3 0844 and 0848 have been converted to 412P for racing by private teams like N.A.R.T. and Scuderia Filipinetti.
Thanks for the great picture Michael! P3 was how John Lamm described the car in 1970 with no mention of 412P. Perhaps Mr Brown was telling the customer what he wanted to hear in describing the car as a P3 back then? The body was of an open car at that time instead of the closed car in current configuration shown. CH
Unless my memory has slipped a cog, I'm pretty sure I saw the car in Bativia, NY, around 1974, still in yellow. I believe it was later restored to red and put back to it's racing condition. Bob Z.
0850 was red when owned by Paul Pappalardo in the early nineties. the other picture shows the car with the Spider body when owned by Dino Martin. not my pics - copyright unknown Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Correct except Ferrari converted 0844 and 0848 from P 3's to 412P's before selling them to NART and Filipinetti. No P3's have existed since 1966 and none ever passed into private hands as P3's. Best
i suppose my english wasn´t good enough. of course the conversions from P3 to 412P have been made by the factory. i wanted to say: converted by Ferrari to be raced by private teams like .... not converted by these teams.
During the Dino Martin time of ownership bluish green was an interesting color choice for the stock wheels which ran Firestone racing tires. The roof was cut at the time the body was remade. However the windshield had to be reinforced at that point to support the weight. With the roof now open; vinyl was used to cover the seat. $30,000 bought you a lot of car back then... CH
The wheels were painted different colors on different cars to avoid confusion in pits. Michael Your English is much better than any of my other languages. Best!
