If you don't find one, a good shop could probably save the bits like the filler neck and remake the rest pretty accurately. Cool bike!!

Try posting on this forum. http://forum.arielownersmcc.co.uk/
I restored two Square Fours and found quite a few impossible parts through this forum.
Pre-war stuff is really hard to find. Hawkshaw in the UK might be worth a try. Best of luck to you. Cool rare bike!!

Thanks, it is a cool bike indeed. It still has the lead seal of the Swiss Army on it since it was drafted during WW II. It will get restored with minimal interference of it's original patina. Repairing, servicing but leaving the original paint, bumps and scratches. Repairing the oil tank it is our fall-back option. The reason we are looking for an alternative is the widespread internal corrosion.
We might weld the known holes and then use a resin sealer in the inside? Any thoughts on that?

Wow nice machine! Fascinating, the square-four. Thanks for the leads. My father is on the forum I think. We'll try Hawkshaw next.
He just sourced some special section wheel bearings "new" somewhere in the UK... they have a flange attached the the side.

Resin, urethane, or epoxy coatings /sealants are really a last resort to save an oil tank. Depending on the level of restoration you are going for I would really try to exhaust all options in obtaining a replacement tank before you try to save a basketcase oil tank. If the coating fails your concerns could run from a small leak to catastrophic engine failure.

Xenu... good points, thanks! The engine and gearbox have been totally stripped and beautifully rebuilt by a local specialist.

The Ariel thumper singles are really underappreciated IMHO. Great project for you and your father.
I have had a bunch of Brit bikes and I learned that patience and a good sense of humor are essential.;)
The parts are out there as you have found. I contacted a few of my contacts about the oil tank. Hope I can help out.

I had a great motorcycle legend Mike Parti help me out with my bikes. Now that he has passed on, I really miss him. I never would have made it through some of the more intense restorations that I did without his help.

Thanks, Marc, for your input and leads. Good humour is never short in short supply in our shop - having owned and restored to various degrees a Lotus Elite, Marcos 3L, 2CV, GT4 Dino... you get to deal with a fair share of funny and strange situations.
The Ariel is a project that has been waiting for years, in boxes recovered from an old friend who passed away.
The previous owner's daughter, also an elderly lady by now, passed by our shop this past summer and was happy to see the bike being resurrected.
My father on nice days often rides an original condition DKW:

Dave that is a sophisticated front suspension geometry!
Interesting they didn't attach the mudguard to the moving elements... must spray quite a bit during rainy days?
