    .
I find the Automatic Heat on my '79 930 to be very effective at maintaining controlled even heat.
    .
    Settings for the Dial between the seats are as follows;
    Position 0 for Heat Off.
Positions 1-9 for Low to Max Heat (thermostatically controlled).
Position DEF for Maximum Heat (NOT thermostatically controlled).
    .
The RED LEVER forward of the Dial is for use only if the Auto Heat fails. You loosen the screw on the side and operate the lever by hand.
    .
The Heating System operates in conjunction with the sliding vent levers on the dash. For Auto Heat try starting with all 3 levers set at center with roof and windows closed.

Thank you for that. I was driving the 930 today, and noticed with the dial at 0, the red lever was all the way down. When I moved the dial to 3, the red lever came up on it's own.

Would this 930 have had an 85mph speedometer initially? According to rennlist:

What is the difference between a type1 and type 2?

I'm assuming my '80 euro is in neither category?

    1979 MY T1 NA 930
    - (normal) build production with all '79 MY 911/930 models
    - 1979 type/style parts as applicable.
    1979 MY T2 NA 930
    - extended build production with all '80 MY 911 & '80 MY Row 930 models through EOY, December 1979
    - changes to 1980 type/style parts as applicable.
    .
See previous threads for further info.
    ..
Correct, but if your 1980 MY Row 930 was produced before January 1980 it may likely have been built alongside a 1979 MY T2 NA 930. :D

Thanks! There is a pretty good chance they were built alongside each other. I don't have the completion date, but the vin ends in 0157.

I'm still trying to figure this out. My 930 also has a fan control on the dash. If I turn that to the lowest setting, the climate control seems to modulate that fan on and off. With the heat dial in the "1" setting, the red lever seems to always (as far as I can tell) go to the full heat, and then the system turns the fan on and off. I'm wondering if it should be modulating the red lever as well?

And what is the point of the fan knob, if the system is controlling it?

Chance to buy a restorable 1979 Porsche 930 and "the total sale amount, including the BaT buyer’s fee, will be donated to Honor Flight Nevada, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., where they can visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice."

That 930 seemed like a bit of a deal, if it checks out.

I was surprised to see that car not make reserve. Should have been enough, in my opinion.

    Spectacular petrol blue 79 930:

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-102/

It will be interesting to see if it exceeds the $177k the documented 9k mile silver 79 was bid to. I would argue the silver car is better, although silver is not as exciting a color as petrol blue, and 911r simply does a superb job of presentation (although the silver car was very competently presented):

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-96/

I think the all time record for a 3.3 930 was this one, also a 911r sale:

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-77/

This petrol blue car is not remotely in the league of that last one, but it is petrol blue, so will be interesting to see what happens!

Good morning everybody, I need some help to find out which is the correct owner's pouch -missing- for this 930 I got two weeks ago.

It's a 1979 model, sold to Austria then sent in the USA and now in Europe since some years, #9309700423

Maybe it's one of those three picture here below? Which one?

    Thankyou very much in advance

    Ciao

    PS
This is a duplicated discussion, as I didn't see there was this specific thread for 1979 Porsche 930.
I also saw that the 1979 one owner car sold for 370+K had this pouch, Is this correct also for Euro cars like mine?
    Thank you

I think the white one on BaT with 253,000 miles and claimed original paint and interior (seriously?) is pretty amazing...

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-103/

If I didn't already own a 930, I think I would be a bidder. It's obviously been well taken care of for it's entire life, even with the high mileage.

For 1979, the plastic maroon exterior "pouch" for the Owner's Manual and Warranty book seems to be correct. However, I have seen black, silver/grey, and maroon interiors. My North American 1979 #0395 has one with a silver/grey interior.
The Owner's Manual and Warranty book were part of the items the selling Dealer put together to give to the buyer upon delivery. The Porsche Country/Region controlled the distribution of these items as they would need to be compliant to the local areas.
As Regional inventories were depleted and released, new stock replaced old stock and if there were slight differences they may have been mixed into those supplied to the Dealers.
Although its nice to have the "pouch", the correct Owner's Manual and Warranty book specific for your car and region are the most important.
