History

I am a lifelong Ferrari enthusiast and have been on FerrariChat for nearly two decades. My obsession for these cars runs deep. As a detailing nut, I also detail my friends’ exotics occasionally. Any member of the Camp Hill, PA section will know me and my car.

While on the hunt for the right Berlinetta or GTS in 2011, a local owner tipped me off to an unadvertised red Spider for sale on consignment at an independent dealer in Maryland. After seeing its condition and taking a top-down test drive I had to have it.

The previous owner was even more OCD than me. His goal was to turn this F355 into a “show car.” In 2008 he commissioned Karosserie (https://karosserie.com/) to do a full repaint of the car in Rosso Corsa 322. Karosserie is one of eight Ferrari-approved paint and body shops in North America. Back then, I believe they were one of six. Their work is impeccable and those who have seen my car generally agree the finish is better than the factory paint. The cost for this work was over $30K in 2008.

Maintenance

All service records since 2007 are available. I’m a stickler about fluids, so most years I’ve done two oil changes. Coolant, brake/clutch fluid and gearbox oil changes have been done every year, despite the 2-year standard for coolant and gearbox oil. I use Motul for engine oil, gearbox oil and brake fluid—and the blue BMW coolant.

I’ve addressed any issues that have come up and handled many items proactively. The list is too extensive for this writeup but here are some highlights:

• New Brembo brakes installed, rotors and pads—all 4 corners (June 2021)
• New rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires installed (June 2021)
• New engine lid struts installed (June 2021)
• New Hill Engineering shifter knob installed (June 2021)
• New alarm siren Varta batteries soldered to siren circuit board & replaced (June 2021)
• New HVAC overlay from StickyRX – not yet installed (June 2021)

• Annual Fluid Service--engine oil & filter, gearbox oil and brake fluid flush (March 2021)

• MAJOR SERVICE # 4 – Scuderia Performante (April 2020) *
  • Replaced all belts, fluids, filters, timing belt tensioner bearings, cam seals, cam O rings, valve cover gaskets, set cam timing.
  • Replaced 2 coolant hoses
  • Replaced both power steering hoses
  • Rebuilt oil line from crankcase to oil tank

• New AC compressor, receiver/drier and pressure switch installed (August 2018)

• New clutch -- Scuderia Performante (August 2017)
  • Installed new clutch, Hill throw out bearing, pilot bearing and triple seals.
  • Replaced gearbox mounts.

· MAJOR SERVICE # 3 – Pocono Sportscar (January 2015)

o Replaced all belts, fluids, filters, timing belt tensioner bearings.
o Replaced water pump.
o Replaced motor mounts.​

Trivia

· 2-time Platinum Award Winner (2012 & 2016), FCA Pennsylvania Concours d’Elegance, Reading, PA. (I only attended twice). In 2012 I e-mailed the head judge to find my score. 99 points: tire valve stem caps were not correct. (I have plain, chrome Ferrari brand caps but the basic black rubber type are correct).

· A couple of local awards: 3rd Place Ferrari (2014) and 3rd Place People’s Choice Award (2015), Castaway Critters car show.

· I met a detailing instructor for Meguiar’s at a car show (circa 2012) and found out he was about to make an offer on this 355 the week after I bought it!

· Used for a flier for a local detailing event sponsored by Adam’s Polishes without my knowledge.
