    I did have the front plate in the trunk and I showed it to him, maybe that let me off...

    I got hit for the same thing last Sat at ~10:15AM whilst on my way to ROE. My story about the front bracket and plate (which I produced) being removed for the recent major service was not convincing, and I got a $60 ticket.

    notoboy says he avoids the Midtown Tunnel for this very reason. Unless absolutely necessary I'm going over the 59th Bridge from now on.
