Some more wip on the wing ... Image Unavailable, Please Login These wings are def not what I'd consider aggressive, in any position. But Im sure they do give some kind of downforce regardless. Did a measurement the other day on the angles (Hi and low labels inverted ). It has these diy end plates, so worked on something that could be adjustable to run parallel with the ground, no matter what position the wing is in. Again, nothing scientific, other than the end plate needs to block spillage of air from the high pressure top side to the underside on the edges. Then Ill cut it out of CF plate, or aluminum, will decide when I get there.
Interior striped out ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Car is rough but unmolested. Image Unavailable, Please Login Driver side floor plate is missing, has this diy plate. So I'm looking for an original floor plate, as per the right hand side. I believe 430 and 360 parts are the same?
The car came with two sets of rims, one set had slicks fitted the other wets. Had them acid dipped. Again, absolutely zero signs of any damage or repair. Pretty much perfect. Thinking of doing one set in one color an the other set in another color. Thrilled for you, I completely understand your motivation. Nothing but respect for what you’re doing. I was tracking the 458 spider quite heavily, but gradually came to the conclusion it was not safe, and nothing I could do could make it so. Toyed with the idea of a 430C, but felt the 458C was something I could grow into (coming from the street version). I made the correct move, as far as I can tell. Tomorrow I leave for Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen (multiple events), Pitt Race and Mid Ohio - a spring extravaganza if there ever was one. Haven’t yet been to Pitt or Ohio. The car will be getting quite a workout! Keep the pics coming, inspiring to see ans appreciated by the viewers on this thread.
Recover and dash while it is out. Glue always separates over time and ripples form. Also FYI down the road, 360C slicks in OEM size and the next size larger in Pirelli are very hard to find at least in North America. We are looking to EMEA for the next sets. Maybe more available near you. Worth starting to investigate
Man I have to say I'm envious ! :-D Have an awesome time ... hope I can do something like that one day ....
Yeah thanks Peter ... Im looking into that currently. Cost of alcantara pretty spendy, but gonna bite the bullet. I believe I can get rubber from Pablo Clark... ......................... Body prep starting this week ... been some delays ... so hopefully will be making some progress on that front in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime been setting parts aside for powder and anodizing ...
THE CAR BEGINS REVEALING ITSELF .... Image Unavailable, Please Login The guys started sanding down the paint ... excited /curious to see what we've got. FRONT HOOD First sign of repairs done on front. The chassis definitely wasn't repaired in the front of the car, so this was obviously a light touch that resulted in body damage at some point. Its a 21 year old race car, campaigned heavily by Kessel Racing from 2002 - 2006, so the light damage that's been revealed so far is looking promising. I was told by the previous owner that cosmetic repairs on the rear left was done a couple of years ago, so we'll see what that looks like in due course. Hoping we won't find anything other than that ... but it is what it is. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login SIDE SKIRTS The right hand side skirt was a rough fiber glass unit. I managed to pick up an oem unit off a salvaged car. Kessel did a modification to the side skirts to fit a flat non oem undertray. We are having a new undertray made up that matches the Kessel unit so will have to do the mod to the "new" skirt. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Again - the "Ziggy" signature on the inside of the body panel. I'm now guessing that's potentially some kind of Quality Assurance thing where a Kessel employee signs work mods they've completed ? Dunno? Any ideas?
Repaired. Edge Primer, then MS Primer with a touch of putty. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login ........ Some interesting angles showing underside ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
ROTORS Some work in progress updates on stuff I'm doing on the side ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Hard Anodized the rotor hats. Bead blasted the rotors. Cleaned up the hardware. This is the time to add the goodies which make driving more fun, primarily cameras, data capturing device of your choice, track timer, and cool suit holders and plumbing. Easy when it is apart.
Thanks for the advice Peter! Can you point me in the right direction ? Does any of this hook up to the Magneti Marelli dash unit ?
I run the two camera Race-Keeper system fully integrated with ECU for data points. One camera on driver and dash the other out front windshield. VBOX is also another good two camera system with data logging capabilities. Record to a SIM card and watch on the PC. I run the CoolShirt system with ice box in my 430. Chillout system is also catching on here in the southern states.
Debating about this (Chillout) or whether to just not track on really warm days (e.g. the entire summer). I had the Coolshirt box but it was taking up the passenger seat, which I wanted and had reinstalled. Chillout not cheap but smaller and will fit in the boot.
Not running due to heat is NOT an option! I have tried both and I think Coolshirt system "feels" colder to me. As you know I have a passenger seat too as that is part of the fun. My coolbox is in my boot in the 430C and can easily fit there in the 360C. Nothing else can go there. But cannot go wrong with either system
Lol, Peter will you please speak to my wife about your first statement? I sold her early this year on doing 16 track days before summer hit with the promise I’d be around to do a cruise to Alaska in June. I’m going to need very strong backing if I do some July / August events. No regrets about bailing on the Coolshirt, given the situation I was in. I believe your point about the temperature difference between the two - one is ice and the other is Freon. I’m gonna look into the Chill system as I think it’s the only one that’ll fit in my boot (a bunch of air ducts take up a lot of the space). Or not…..
Thanks for the kind words and great feedback guys! Very much appreciated I see what you mean regarding this being the right tine to do this. The Coolshirt system is around $600? all in? and the Chillout system is around $4k? Can def see the benefits of the Chillout system regarding size ... but quite a gap in cots difference ... Im def in a warm climate so this has been on my mind ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Is this everything you need? ............... Have you guys used any of these apps? Theres a few on the app store ... $15 compared to $3k? I'm sure its not anywhere near as nice and prob lacks some features, its not integrated into the ECU etc, but could do the job? Any experience / thoughts ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
STICKY BUTTONS Well, not many buttons, but that nasty paint product is on a number of other interior bits and pieces. Warm climates really don't go well with this stuff. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login I found using Thinners and then Rubbing Alcohol got the paint off completely. Its stubborn stuff too. If you want to get it down to plastic. I then did a test using Plasti-dip but I really didnt like the result, so decided to just leave it with the plastic finish.

PAINT AND LIVERIES Been trying to find pics of the car in its various Kessel Liveries (Ive been told on good authority that there were a few) with the idea that it could be cool to redo the car in one of those. It kinda makes it historically interesting, but I'm not convinced Im going to like any of them, but who knows. The only pics I've managed to get so far are these, which is when the car was in storage at Kessel after being retired. For those of you who may not know who Kessel Racing is, here's a link to their website. Image Unavailable, Please Login ( ^^ Thats an MC12 on top btw ) So not a beauty queen by an means, but I can see the potential ! <3 Image Unavailable, Please Login https://www.kessel.ch/en/kessel-racing-lugano.php Managed to find a set of temporary wheels for the car to run on while being prepped and painted. You got make it ugly to make it beautiful right? Image Unavailable, Please Login Found this on https://www.saxonparts.com/ Its going to cost $6-7K landed after shipping and duties, so not sure about it, but I really do like the NGT front. The stock unit I've got doesn't look that bad to me, but still need to explore other routes around this. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really love the livery on this. It pops but still has an old school look about it. Based on the European heritage of the car, I wouldn't use the NART logos etc, but I don't think the blue and white NA stripe detracts? The stripe could perhaps also work as a tricolore instead of the blue.
