    The difference must be minimal.

The car looks undoubtedly well sorted though, and I could easily see those mp4-29 writings replaced by ps4.

I hope Ferrari has some hidden aces, it's not looking fantastic.

Also I guess if someone wanted to replace nose, they'd have to go through crash tests again, which takes time.

I'm wondering if all the black paint around the engine/gearbox area at the rear of the car is more about practicality than aesthetics - As in: thermal transfer efficiency?

The black paint may well help dissipate the heat from the engine/gearbox better than Red paint would.

Whilst the difference may be minimal, you need to do everything possible to help control the internal temperatures.

As for the nose: I think it's an interesting (if not pretty), concept.

It appears to be creating a very specific tunnel section in order to channel the air beneath the car in a very controlled manner rather than splitting and diffusing it in multiple directions as the McLaren appears to be doing.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, it just seems to Me to highlight a difference in aerodynamic concept (possibly due to the difference between their respective pull-rod/push-rod front suspensions).

Reckon Ferrari is up to something with the rear diffuser on the F14T. All the launch photos I've seen, seem to avoid showing any details of that particular area. The only pic is the rear launch shot that shows an exceptionally flat and wide diffuser which doesnt appear to follow traditional diffusers form or function....

    Just and observation.

that's just Ferrari's standard practice with their launch cars - They never show the car with a proper diffuser fitted, just a basic diffuser or a blanking panel:

Horner said pretty much the same thing a while back too.

Obviously, no one really knows yet, but it wouldn't surprise me at all!..... They're going *way* into the unknown here, and that 'generally' means things break early on. OK, they've been developing 'em for a year or so, but it's not like the aircraft industry with 10s of thousands of man years in R&D etc.

    Should be fascinating! :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Back in 2006, I just Wiki'd the opening 4 races, there where around 4 retirements per race from car failure.

Granted, they had a bit more testing then....But I seriously doubt we're going to see 12 cars retiring from mechanical stuff.

Yeah, but that was simply Mad Max' attempt at cost cutting! 'All' they did was chop 2 cylinders off. The 'basics' remained the same.

This is a whole other can of worms! I could be wrong (! ;)), but is anyone, anywhere even doing what they're trying with the MGU's for example?

You could well be right. 'This is why we watch!' ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Can't really tell by the angle, but it looks like Extenze could be their sponsor this year also.
