Hi everyone. Thought I could make a fun thread here now when 2016 is soon about to come. I find it very fun to do new things to or with my car. A refresh / restore or modify a V12 Ferrari is something you do with pure love. So here is the goal: To share future "projects" with the car. It can be to plan an awesome yourney, attend events or replacing parts to make it better. Here we can share our future "projects" and post pictures, text and videos along with along the way for the purpose of enjoyment and learning from each other. A healthy process for our super V12 Ferraris! Not so super for the wallet, but that is another story... I guess I have to start here myself so here it goes... -New trip through Europe -Re-paint the car -Diverse exhaust modifications. -New cambelts and service -Maybe some interior upgrades.. Thanks for sharing. AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL V12 GUYS ! 1999 Blu Pozzi / Crema 550
Hi from Italy! For sure you will do a great refurbisment of your great V12 Ferrari! I can confirm that your 550 is wonderful, i see last july when you come to me. If i could help you don't hesitate to ask ... Happy new year to you !!!! Fabio from Italia
Hi 456 M and Fabio, interesting post, I just thought about what shall be done on my Maranello during 2016.... - last sticky parts around the steering wheel coloum will be removed and newly coated - foil around the aircon operation panel will be renewed (two bubbles visible on the original part) - new leather strap to secure the tool kit has to be mounted - two new yellow hubcaps to exchange the slightly patinated ones All the necessary rest to maintain the car in driveable and well mantained conditions has been already carried out in 2015 (belts including tensioners, aircon service, fresh oils etc.....). So I don't expect bigger investments for 2015 for my car... Happy new year to everybody! Saluti, Jürgen
Hi all Next for our 456 is new plugs, injector clean, balance of sri hoses to fit in intake valley when inlet manifold gaskets arrive. Stereo reolacement. Sort both window pantographs, passenger window auto drop, passenger seat recline. Maybe fit the p-zeros - but the old bridgestones are proving to be alright in the dry... Put as many miles on it as I can.
For my hotrod 550, I'm hoping to finish the engine build (it's been relinered with a Darton big bore setup for 6.0 liters displacement) and get it run & broken in on an engine dyno with this ITB setup, then if all goes well, these Hayabusa TB's will be upgraded to a set of Jenveys. This is a 456 intake manifold which had the side plenums cut off, and our old friend mk_e extended the runners for me with his usual level of impeccable work. The runners had to be extended as the TB's and their mounts were fouling the fuel rails. The runners are now a bit longer than necessary, but they'll be fine tuned once I go to the Jenvey setup. No, it's a 550, but I'm using the 456 intake manifold. They do make a nice contrast with the ally, don't they Dave? (Dave machined them for me)
Hi John, nice intake manifold ..very nice ... your engine will be more HP and with this intake manifold more ready to the gas pedal movement ..and last but not less important will do a wonderful intake sound ..... when do you think engine will be ready? happy new year!! Fabio
Thanks Fabio, I think with a set of your headers and this intake, the sound should be sublime As far as when the engine will be ready, I'm just going to say in 2016, because I'm a terrible schedule planner/predictor when so many things will be out of my control and then there's always scope creep. For example, the heads for the engine are "finished", however I'm now considering disassembling them and having the chambers & valve faces ceramic coated. I'm a big believer in ceramic & polymer coatings and have done all the engines and especially their bearings that I've built over the years. A very happy New Year to you & yours, as well! Bas, it's over at the "other" forum.
Wow very impressive John! You should fab up a carbon fiber plenum like this one from my 550GTS. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wayne, that plenum & intake looks gorgeous! I may borrow a portion of the idea, as getting a good cold air source up to the ITB's will be a challenge. Does your system get its air through the "old" brake ducts in the front bumper? Wish I had carbon fiber skills!
John: Intake openings with FIA restrictor are up above the main radiator aperture. I think I have the mould for the plenum. Regards, Wayne Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm do for a major this year. I'd like to upgrade shock ecu and sway bar (have springs) and dream of a 1 din CarPlay unit.
Great posts so far. I am looking at Maranellos all the time because I think they are the best looking modern Ferraris.... Today a found a 550 with a grill that to me looks like it has chrome edges on the fins. Is this original, or is it just the light which make it look like it is chromed? It looks good and I want to have that on my own 550. I know some 575s had an optional grill. Maybe someone can help! Thanks! Image Unavailable, Please Login
F456M, for me it looks like a light effect, Imho the standard black grill pictured from a light reflecting angle. Saluti, Jürgen
