2017 Porsche 991 C4: worst car I have ever driven.

I also have a cayenne GTS which I have driven on gravel roads and it is just fine-horses for courses

It was 10 years ago (and a lot of cars ago) but I'm pretty certain it is like driving two very different cars as the improvements in most cars in a decade make them incomparable.
I know that at the time of I loved it , whether I would now -who knows?

 

No, I really do believe that Porsche no longer makes sports cars. Case in point: compare the Carrera GT and the 918. The 918's kit car-like build quality is shameful, especially for such a heavy car.

 

Define sports car...

Look at the market today. Look at the current safety regulations for airbags and pedestrian bumpers. Look at the fuel consumption regulations.

If you want a "pure" sports car.... just buy an open-wheel track car and be done with it.

ALL the high end brands... Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc... they in business to make money.

Well I have just a bit of experience with Porsche's (picking up #41, yeah I know I said 40 was enough), and yes over the years they have gotten heavier, more GT like (which is why my 997 has 135K worth of modifications and was apart for a year and a half). Here is the problem with car companies today, they need to make money (& please shareholders) to survive. Yes there are a certain group of people who would buy a Porsche the way mine was remade, but most people want creature comforts, safety, and to be able to drive the car without risk of death. #41 is for my girlfriend, a new Cayman S (that is about the most loaded one I've ever seen mid 90's MSRP). She drove the 991 4 and came away not so impressed in fact she said, I do not get this whole Porsche thing. Then she saw the Carmine Red Cayman S. She asked to drive it the salesman got the keys handed them to me and said you take her out (I did not go with her in the 991). Now considering what I have now and what I have owned (after 456 cars you learn a bit), it is not easy for any car to impress me out of the box (that's what I call unmodified cars), but damn this one did I had a blast almost did not want to let her in the drivers seat. But when she did, she could not hide the smile on her face. I have made my feeling known about AWD sports cars before (the Gallardo in AWD was by far the worst sports car I ever drove which is why I turned mine in RWD long before Lamborghini got the idea), and I have turned two 996tt to RWD. The Cayman is now the only new Porsche I'd want to own. I still prefer my 4C to it, but it is close. I can understand how some people might like Porsche has lost its way, but unfortunately they (like other successful car manufacturers) must please a whole lot more people than the 1 or 2% of customers that want cars like the Lotus or the 4C. To the OP, I once said (on this forum)the Gallardo in AWD drove like a Toyota pickup truck, it went over about as well as your comments. I think you might be a bit extreme, but I do see your point, though I have learned that when you keep hammering the nail after it has no further to go, you will not get anywhere. I guess Porsche will not be getting you as a customer, enjoy whatever car pleases you.

 

Have you driven a Porsche Boxster Spider? I just drove my friend's 2016 (limited production). I was very impressed with the rawness and visceral feel of the car. If you haven't driven one give it a try if you can find one that is.

 

Give me a break.... I've Spent a decent amount of time with 918 and the build quality is excellent. Have any other more ridiculous claims you'd like to get out today?

 

Perhaps there will be a comparison to a Lazy Boy recliner next.
