To axe the grid girls was an act of mercy...they won't have to stand near these ugly cars...
I don´t think both cars are the same scale....It looks like they made both cars the same length in the picture to compare the lines....Maybe because they actually do not know the size of the car to make this comparison right....
LOL McLaren Filming day today at Navarra circuit has been delayed to avoid more leaks.... Image Unavailable, Please Login It's going to take place tomorrow after the McLaren official launch.
That's the biggest difference. But I wonder if the HALO adds back that lost aero resistance they gained.
Mercedes has kept the same wheelbase as last year. IMO their car looks a mess. What Mercedes seems to have gone for is edit out the flaws in last years car (specifically widening it's operating window). I'm unsure how much more speed they can really get out of that car.... Ferrari on the other hand seems to have found many more areas to address. With the oil trick likely closed, I expect Mercedes and Ferrari to have a more balanced battle. My hopes are the Ferrari is at least as fast as them. The dark hose in all this is Red Bull. They started on the car a lot earlier that the rest. If their car is quick from Melbourne onwards they'll be serious contenders. IMO they have the best driver combo and a superior development team than anyone else. Their speed is largely dependent on Renault and their engine effort, however. And that brings Mclaren....if the Renault is a powerful engine they will also be around. They have a seriously good driver combination (stoffel held his own well last year). They will not be contenders for the title but a race win is likely to me. More importantly they'll snoop points away from Ferrari and Mercedes.
Would be fun to have more teams in the hunt, wins for Ferrari, MB, RB, McLaren, maybe throw in a podium for Force India and Renault while you're at it. If, in general, the longer we have the same engine the closer the builders get, then things should be tighter than last year. Ferrari saying they've stretched the wheel base and tightened the rear of the car sounds like a good idea so far.
On shear speed, no. But on street tracks like Monaco, Alonso just needs to get P1 during quali and he has the race won....unless the PU blows on him....yikes...did I just say that. Hope I did'nt jinx it.
Renault power unit operating at ‘more than 950HP’ Following the reveal of the new Renault R.S.18, the Enstone-based team claim their power unit is operating at more than 950HP. The figure was included as part of their spec details for the 2018 challenger, but it is reliability that Renault want to focus on given they supply two high-profile customers in Red Bull and McLaren, and will be working under tighter restrictions given they have just three penalty-free engines to work with. “We need a strong reliability record,” said Bell. “That’s something we need to focus on, and we have worked hard on it over the winter. We need the car as reliable as we can make it. “That’s a huge challenge, even more so than performance development, and it’s the toughest task we face. “To improve reliability, we have to accept nothing less than perfection. Anything that ends up on the car needs to be designed and built to the highest standard; checked and rechecked as fit for purpose. “All the issues which blighted us last year need to be eradicated by a fresh approach. It’s not something however that you can flick on like a switch, you need well established processes in place.” http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/view/629166/Renault_power_unit_8216more_than_950HP8217/

look at that one pic going down the pit lane. That "thong" part is thick enough to block a pit crew member, photo journo, marshall, etc. etc.
