Thoughts? No manual tranny? WTF? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/2019-bmw-3-series-330i-m340i-photos-info
Hardly a proper engine either, remember when there was a good chance a 3 series had a wonderful straight six?
That front end is pretty ugly and the rear looks like a Lexus. At least they say the M3 will have a manual option, which makes sense. Standard 3 series who cares...
The 330 has a 4-cylinder, while the 340 has a straight 6-cylinder. My gripe with the 3-series is that each new iteration gets bigger and bigger.
No manual in the standard 3 series means no new drivers will be learning on a manual and next iteration the M3 won't have one either. Looks fine to me, the question will be how well it drives. BMW has been going away from drivers cars towards the mainstream for the last decade or so. Supposedly this is a return to form, but we'll see when the production models land.
Exactly, but the straight six cames many sizes from 1.6 (motorbike) 2, 2.2, 2.5, 2.8, 3.0, 3.2 3.5 and 3.8. So almost the entire range. There used to be a 4 cyl 1.6 and 1.8, thé entry level. That’s what made them special. Light, RWD, great chassis, well made and with straight sixes that genuinely gave a special engine experience in a relatively accessible car. 4 cyl turbo, no matter bhp or torque figure : boring.
I hate it too, but sadly that is true for every car. Take a look the the 911 and how much each generation has grown over the years. I think my 996 is about the same size as a Cayman.
